Mk4Gaz
I didn't think you guys would like it to be honest, I'm definitely going to do a second version that will be neater. I'm quite happy with this one, but it's not perfect. A standard drinks can is 66mm, the opening on this is 70mm so I'm sure it'll be fine. Holds a McDonald's cup well! I've tried to go down the hobbyist route, but it didn't really work out. If round two works as it should, I'd be happy to make some for members on here, if the mods allow it? I just need to source another cubby lid now, to play around with
Andrew K
Nice work! Let me know when you go into production Great work I like the look of this so
Al Massey
That looks good fitted. Really want one now
MattP
Thanks fellas ! It's very much a prototype, although it will be fitted to the car for now. I've got an idea for a neater one, so i'll have a mess around when i get a chance ....
Ian C
It's a quality job, no doubt about that! But I'm not sure how one would actually reach the cup while driving? I'd destroy it with my elbow anyway so it's not for me
Supragal
I remembered the drinking vessel that I have trouble with in my car - water bottles, especially the larger ones. Most coffee places are bigger than the standard ones. I'm not trying to nit pick, just trying to be helpful before you create something that turn out in reality to not be quite right. Road test it with various drinks!!
Mk4Gaz
Comments good or bad are welcome, it's feedback that helps make good products My main idea was for canned drinks, as once they're open, they need either drinking straight away, or storing. Or a mcdonalds type drink should a drive through get abused whilst I'm out and about! Bottles can have the cap screwed back on, and be wedged by the seat belt clip, or in between your legs, without fear of getting wet gentleman's areas It can be got to whilst driving, by reaching across with my right arm, and holding the wheel with my left - I wouldn't recommend trying it while hooning around a country lane though! I purposely set it back, so my left elbow can still rest on the cubby lid, a double version would obviously make the arm rest unusable for that purpose, whilst holding drinks. listy
It needs to be big enough to hold a large costa cup for me. Have you thought about putting one in place of the ashtray? It's where my coffee usually goes, and sits low enough not to get in the way. Like Ian, I'd destroy it being on the arm rest
Mk4Gaz
Thing is, I like the ashtray in place, it finishes the dash trims off neatly. Or do you mean making a blanking cap to cover the square hole when it's not being used to hold a cup? Think I might make an integral holder, to slot inside the cubby box. Jamesy
Is it deep enough to hold a large can of red bull without it falling out the whole if i take a corner at 100mph?
Mk4Gaz
Is it deep enough to hold a large can of red bull without it falling out the whole if i take a corner at 100mph? I don't think many cup holders would do that dude

I mean doing what you have done with the arm rest, but in place of the ash tray. So remove the ash tray altogether, cut out the ash tray "housing" and replace it with the same as you have in the arm rest.
Mk4Gaz
Ah, good idea. I might be able to do that
Graham1984
Ah, good idea. I might be able to do that You might want to do a mod to stop your steering wheel falling off too after seeing earlier photos

I might actually have a go at that myself
gordy.r
I think this is a great idea, both the centre console and ash tray ideas... Hell, if someone can remove the drivers airbag and make a sandwich holder I'd be up for that as well!
listy
It's something I've always thought about doing, but didn't want to cut up a manual gear surround, in case it didn't turn out right

Make it on a bendy arm (like a windscreen mount phone holder) so you can position it so you can just chomp away

JasonR24
Don't know why my previous post didn't come up but that is a really good idea! Would definitely be many interested people in something like this, always used to be an issue with drinks in my old supra!
Mk4Gaz
I've spent the last few evenings making a second version. This, in my opinion is much neater, and looks factory. It comfortably holds large costa/mcdonalds cups, and cans, which should cater for any drinks I'm likely to have. This is purely a black gel coat finish, straight from the mould. And the colour/sheen is spot on. Well pleased
Al Massey
Wow that looks even better. Spot on. Right, will someone give him his hobbyist membership so we can start buying these please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
