Jake
Tonight I fitted a derestrictor I got from a company called EuroSpec 2000. The instructions are terrible, typical Engrish rubbish. See them here After fitting the derestrictor I took the car out but found these (new) problems : 1. The Overdrive Off warning light is flashing constantly 2. The auto gearbox doesn't change down when I put my foot down. 3. Car still cuts out at speeds over 112mph. 4. The car is slightly smoking black smoke, like it's running really rich. I didn't notice it until the engine had got hot. See on the instructions where it says "GND centre plug, bottom row 2nd from left black" ? What does that mean? The only black wire I could see going to the ECU was on the left hand connector not the centre one, so I connected the black wire from the Derestrictor to the wire. I guess that's where I've gone wrong, is it? Do any of you guys have proper instructions for fitting one of these damn things? I'm so very very pissed off right now. I hope one of you can help, I don't know what to do next -- Dunk
richardharmon
Hi, you might find this useful: ECU pin-out Note this is the pin-out for a UK spec ECU, however it does reveal some interesting points. It looks to me like you may have chopped the wire going to pin E9-12 and attached the device in-between the ECU and the rest of the loom at this point. Something to do with the overdrive there maybe (A/T solenoid)? I think the instructions are incorrect and you should have interrupted the signal to pin E10-2 instead of pin E9-12, *RIGHT* hand not *LEFT* hand connector. As for the ground (GND) wire, this should be connected to pin E9-69 according to the instructions (ECM ground) don't know if the wire is black or what though. The +12V wire looks okay on pin E10-31, that's where my RLTC gets its power from, so should be okay. I don’t know enough about the auto transmission to say if fitting the delimiter in this way will change the shift points, anyone? Out of interest, I have one of these fitted: TRL Delimiter It's very good! I would seriously consider one of these from Pete Betts (TRL), he provides full instructions avoiding problems with the active spoiler and speed sensitive power steering, I have never had a problem with his unit and everything functions as it should. THOR Racing
I'm sorry but the instructions are TOTAL BO**OCKS! I have never heard such CRAP! in all my life, talk about confusing!. Where's the pinout drawing of the ECU and a nice little diagram? PLUS!!!!!! and I'm PISSED OFF HERE! It's my flipping connector drawing at the top! (Which incidentally has no relation to fitting a top speed delimiter! I wouldn't mind if they'd scanned it in from the Toyota Manual and then added their own wires but that's my text saying SPEEDOMETER CONNECTOR C13 and MY COLOURS! They were never meant to relate to ACTUAL wires on the LOOM! They've cut and paste my JPG image and added their own text. Which is confusing to say the least. And I know how to do it! I've said BEFORE! Use my CIRCUIT diagram!!!!! http://www.trlperformance.com/dsc.html For specifics see below..... ALL you need to do is know which wire from THEIR BOX is 12V, 0V, Speed Input and Speed delimited Output. 12V and 0V are easy! . Speed signal is EASY! IT's the PINK!!!!! wire in the top right hand corner (has a silver band) Insert the box in SERIES with this wire! Using the diagram at MKIV.COM You'll see E10(31) = 12V E9(69) = 0V E10(2) = Speed Sensor input (i.e the one you need!) Who are these shower! I've a good mind to give them a piece of my mind! PROMISE you'll never cross their palms with silver again. Regards Pete

Thanks Pete, I really wish I'd just bought your one in the first place. I phoned EuroSpec 2000 today to complain about the instructions but they didn't want to know. The woman who answered the phone, called Sally, said somebody would ring me back. Guess what? Yep, nobody did. I looked on the net while I was at work today and I saw the diagram on your site. I recognized it immediately. You should send them a solicitors letter, cheeky bastards. I checked the SLD tonight and I'm sure I've installed it as per the instructions provided by EuroSpec 2000. So, I've taken it off again and the car is running smoothly again now. It still seems to be smoking at idle though. Maybe it was before and I never noticed. It's really black soot-like smoke. Could that be something to do with the ECU? Could I have done some permanent damage? Or is there another possible cause? Like I said: I never noticed it smoking like that before this whole SLD saga started. Anyways, thanks very much for your help Pete, I'll check out those instructions of yours after the footy. The instructions I have got definately say it's Red&Blue. I'm going to be complaining to EuroSpec 2000 and I want to be sure of my facts. THOR Racing
Yes 100%. (assuming speed delimiting at the engine ECU is all you want to do) The Speed signal wire at the "engine ECU" is the Pink with Silver Band more specifically located E10(2) NOT E9(2) as they suggest. The speed signal coming from the speed sensor (attached to the gearbox) is the red and blue wire, this goes into the odometer and becomes the pink and silver banded wire. It is the pink wire that is distributed throughout the entire car. You never see the red and blue wire carrying speed again! If you've modified any red and blue wire you've modified the wrong signal. God knows what it's done. Complain but don't give the correct information. Why do their job for them. I spent a lot of time (and many others on this list) gathering such info so if they cannot be bothered to research it themselves or understand even the FREE stuff I've posted then they are not worth helping. It couldn't be clearer on my site I don't think and still they copied it wrong. Not sure why your cars smoking. Regards Pete
Jake
Thanks a lot Pete, You're a star. I really appreciate your help with this. Needless to say I will be buying all my stuff from TRL in the future. -- Dunk
