forbsey777
Hey guys, have my first supra almost 3 weeks, just had a full service done, all filters oils coolants plugs, timing belt, tensioner and rocker cover gaskets done, still have a misfire at idle. Car pull likes a dream and running great only I can still hear the misfire when idiling , should I change the leads and distributor cap aswell or could it be something else. Any info would really help
Havard
I replaced mine on the NA and it fixed the problem. They do break down over time. Mine was at higher revs generally though. H.
forbsey777
Cheers havard, as I said car pulls like a dream when running just want the engine 100% before I start on the exterior
SupraLEDrears
I had the same problem. Make sure you replace the rotor arm too. Did you service the car or a garage? You would've thought that they'd notice a misfire.
Havard
Just thought. This may be the idle control valve being full of kack.
DodgyRog
Make sure there is no moisture in the plug wells, any moisture in there at all will cause a misfire, common problem, especially if you have been cleaning 5 & 6 have a habit of getting wet, but worth checking them all anyway
Chris88
Just thought. This may be the idle control valve being full of kack. I'd go with that as most ignition related issues become worse with increased load not at tick-over.
Chris Wilson
I would take it to a garage with decent diagnostics and say "I have a misfire at idle. Is it ignition or fuelling related, and can you fix it please"? An N/A Supra engine is very basic and should be easy to pin a misfire down on. Guest Joe marcon
At the top near bulk head is a rubber seal (weather strip) they can deteriorate over time and let water in under, the it drops onto 6th spark plug and cause a misfire. That was the problem i had mate. Check it out
forbsey777
Sorry its been a while, finally have the car sorted. Changed the distributor cap and rotor arm, also changed the spark plugs again as the previous ones were for the tt engine, suppliers mistake thankfully. Rotor arm had a good bit of wear out of the middle of it and there was build up on each point of the distributor cap. Car running well so far thankfully, cheers for the input guys
