gavin.starr
Cheers for the comments folks. I shall hopefully have some nice shiny parts before the weekend. I need to get in contact with Paul to see about dropping it off for its rebuild. Ive never built an engine before se I feel a little bit out of my depth with that part lol. Ric
removed a few bits for powdercoating. That pretty much as far I I could tonight I've read a few threads lately regarding powder coating engine bits. Many seem to advise against it, as the powdercoat can become brittle with engine bay temps and start flaking off, as it's only cured at a lowish temp when painted. gavin.starr
The guy i spoke to does his coatings at around 180 degrees C, Im sure thats the figure he gave me when he did my monkey bike frame. Hopefully that will be well sufficient enough to withstand the engine bay temps. If it does start flaking it not too big of a deal to remove the bits again, I cant be bothred getting it polished up as it more hard work keeping it all clean afterwards lol. gavin.starr
With regards to the cam covers, obviously they get blasted to give the paint a propper surface to bond to. On the inside of the cam covers there are metal plates for the breather pipes. how can i stop bits of grit/shot beads from getting in they look like they are riveted into place. Can i just give the whole lot a bath afterwards to wash out any bits. The last thing i want is to get them fitted and bits of grit start falling out onto my cams. gavin.starr
In order to remove the engine bay wiring do I have to remove the wings ? gav
Kaan W
I removed mine with the wings on Gav, although it's probably easier with them off. I've missed quite a bit of this thread I'll have a read through later, why are you removing the loom?
gavin.starr
Just so I can give the whole bay a re spray. The loom is kinda in the way. I could probably work around it but it would make my life easier without. Gav
Kaan W
I removed mine to spray the bay last year, there's not actually alot to remove just connectors for wiper motor, brake fluid reservoir, horns, indicators, washer tank, earths, lights etc.
gavin.starr
Im almost there. Its really starting to peve me off. The plastic covers that hold the loom to the inside wing pop off, just remove the whole cover with the loom still inside. gavin.starr
I didnt get any time to work on the supra this weekend unfortunatley, Ive been helping my mate get his vw beetle ready for a vw show next weekend. It had a heavily over fueling carb which was flooding his engine massivley. Luckily it was an easy fix due to an incorrectly fitted float and needle valve by a vw specialist of all places So hopefully im going to get some work done this week and eventually get that bloody loom out lol. Thanks for the comments guys Gav

Cheers Kaan Im struggling with it as its currently on stands and have about 6 inches either side for access, Im going to lover it down and pust it back onto the wider part of my driveway, hopefully that will make it a touch easier.
