Mini Movie Review

I've just seen the last Jedi. I have never been so utterly disappointed in a film in my entire life; not only has it killed my interest in the franchise, it has soured Return of the Jedi. I'm actually in a state of shock this morning at the utter trainwreck that I witnessed last night.

Why mention Return of the Jedi?

This film and every other film, book cartoon in the cannon world has nothing to do with ROTJ.

I thought this film was great, yes it lacked in a few places, as did the originals on many occasions, there were a few WTF moments but overall, the film was good.

The multiple stories worked well, it all generally flowed in the same direction as each other and it is slowly going in a different direction from the rest of the films, which is good as we did not want another carbon copy.

You mean where she used the force in a situation that has pretty much happened to many force users in the cannon series?

Darth Maul used the force to stay alive after being chopped in half.

Not necessarily the fact that it was done....more the way they did it. She looked like one of the witches from Hocus Pocus :tomato:

Because it detracts from the ending of ROTJ, so yes it does have something to do with ROTJ as the events are the same characters at a later date.

Not sure about the multiple stories, some worked but others were unnecessary and didn't gel well. There were too many sub plots and a lot of dumb things just for the sake of filling time. What they did with snoke after the build up in TFA was terrible story telling and turns TFA into a hugely pointless waste of time. Also, what was the point of Benicio Del Toro's character? The whole casino subplot was a waste of time, other than to have a dig at the military industrial complex and make a point about animal rights. It made no difference to the outcome, other than serving as a plot device to bring Fin and Phasma back together for a fight.

TFA detracts from ROTJ as the "Empire" is still around and the Republic is dead.

This carries on from TFA not ROTJ and it is many years after that fact too.

However I agree on the Snoke bit, I didn't get why they did that.

The casino scene just adds to the sub plot of Poe's idea to save the day and to show that plans do go wrong and that there is always a bigger picture.

I want to know why Rose was even in it, pointless character.

I’m setting my standards nice and low for the new Star Wars as the previous 2 have been awful. Just like the new Star Trek films and series have been awful. I feel this is desperation in Hollywood as they have no originality left. Rehash after rehash. No decent new IPs anywhere to be seen.

Setting my expectations nice and low for this film did the trick! I was expecting a 1/10 movie quite honestly but I'd say it's a good 3 or 4 out of 10. Most of the film was trash. Standard disneyfied rubbish but the last quarter of the film was genuinely true to form Star Wars which was great. Definitely too drawn out but worth buying the bargain used DVD off eBay for the last quarter of the film

Because despite the best efforts of Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, an entire Galactic Empire and a handful of Jawas, Disney are the only entity that has managed to turn Mark Hamill to the dark side.

Apart from Lucas, who did it in a while film!

You know, when he’s wearing black, where he enjoys beating up his father and so on.

Again, Disney own the rights, but didn’t write the script or direct the film.

It’s still a Lucasfilm production.

Funny how Disney didn’t ruin Rogue One, they even agreed everyone should die and let it happen.

Even Mark Hamill said it isn’t Luke Skywalker that he played. It was like a different character and he disagreed with it. Honestly I thought Rogue One was awful. the last Jedi was better than rogue one and the force awakens but even then still not that good. This is all feels lazy and stretched out. I blame Disney as I doubt if Lucas was still involved that it would be this bad.

I thought Rogue One was excellent but this was pretty awful. Glad Hamill has spoken out recently about not being entirely happy.

That’s because everyone remembers Luke from 34 years ago!

A lot has changed since then, hell I’ve changed in the 4 years I’ve been out of the army and I’ve changed from the 18 since I joined the army.

Why are people struggling with change after 3 decades?

I loved Rogue One, thought it was a great film.

Lucas is still involved with the current Star Wars.

Do you blame Disney for the prequels?

In my honest opinion which I guess everyone diagrees with. The prequels were better than any of the new films.

Luke may have changed but changed so much he'd murder his nephew in his sleep? If anything he'd become more disciplined over time not the opposite.

You can't honestly say that the whole first half of the film (at least) couldn't have been done in about half an hour. The best scene was the lightsaber fight.

Seemed incredibly lazy story telling overall. The whole film revolved around the fleet. The whole film. I couldn't believe there wasn't any more.

The characters were awful. Rey is a terrible character. Kylo Ren is the only decent character in the whole saga and even he has issues development wise.

If you enjoyed it then that's good mate I just wasn't invested at all and I tried.

Just watched Bright on Netflix and have to say it was a great film. Another piece of evidence against the critics. 94% on google but rotten tomatoes is 30% again the audience score is 90%!

You couldn’t make it up. Anyway it’s got some funny bits but some great action pieces and a unique background story. Mix of lord of the rings, the fifth element and training day.

Rotten tomatoes is a joke now.

TLJ and Bright just proved that.

I’m hoping to watch it tonight.

Apparently Netflix want to do a sequel

I actually liked the prequels, for what they were.

Could have been massively better and less CGi though.

Luke didn’t go in there with the intention to murder his nephew, he had a weak moment and the dark side took over, again which happened multiple times in the OT.

Luke is not and has never been perfect.

People need to realise that and get over the nostalgia.

I will agree there were many faults in the film, but I can’t understand why people only blame this film and RJ and not JJ for his a new New Hope film!

Honestly I think the critics in general are just out of touch. I rarely see a critic agreeing with the general audience.

Bright is worthy of a sequel I really enjoyed it. Let me know what you think of it!

I totally agree with the cgi, I think it was just a huge deal at the time but hasn't aged well. I still enjoy them though.

Also I agree with you on JJ as well. I dislike him a lot, I think he's incredibly overrated. He ruined Star Trek as well in my opinion. I think the force awakens is the worst Star Wars film to date. many probably disagree but just my opinion.

I wanted to love the new set of films. I went into the cinema with the force awakens and rogue one with my hopes high and really open minded but honestly they just lacked for me. Really stretched out and some really unnatural scenes. I didn't buy into the world or the charterers at all which made me really gutted and I think that's why I went into the last Jedi with such low expectations.

I hope that they learn from this and the next few films are an improvement because they have so much potential!

I’ve never thought critics were in touch with the audience anyway.

It will either be tonight or tomorrow depending on drink :)

I loved he prequels because they expanded on the universe that not many knew about and it set up the lore, wasn’t handled the best but the idea was great.

I honestly love the new Star Trek, but only because it’s updated.

I call it action film in space with Star Trek insignia.

It appeals to all which is good.

TFA was basically a new hope.

It was good that it ignited a spark in new fans and reignited a spark in the original fans, but the problem was it was too much of a copy.

The best film so far out of the new ones is Rogue One for me without a doubt, I thought it was amazing, mainly because it had nothing to do with the Skywalker lineage.

Spot on about Rogue one, thought it was great.
