Spunkmeyer
Maybe formulaic, or maybe a lot better than it was meant to be - Man on Fire (Tony Scott film, rip) only scored 47 on IMDB for me it was absolutely brilliant
Scott
Very good film. Oddly enough I've just this second finished watching The Equaliser. Pretty decent, if a little simple. But it was a very formulaic, and I can't help thinking that Denzel is one of the most talented actors of his generation, and it would be good to see him in a more serious and intelligent role again like he used to. Have you watched Flight? Was just about to mention Flight there. I totally agree with how credible he is as an actor, I've always rated him. His choice of film isn't always the best but they all pay well I guess. He Got Game is another sterling performance from him. Maybe formulaic, or maybe a lot better than it was meant to be - Man on Fire (Tony Scott film, rip) only scored 47 on IMDB for me it was absolutely brilliant Thoroughly enjoyed that too, very entertaining
Kendo11
Man on fire was also pretty decent. Maybe on reflection last night I was left with a lingering worry that he might be going the Neeson/Taken way.
Spunkmeyer
I don't think Neeson has the back catalogue that Denzel has, Neeson needed Taken I think
Scott
Tonights film was the Shawshank Redemption for the 100+th time. What an amazing movie, it has everything for me. I've said it before and I'll say it again, best movie ever! Next is The Man with the Iron Fists. I'm sure I've seen it before but having spotted the sequel I thought I would refresh my memory
Swampy442
Haha the man with the iron fists, hip hop samurai film. I quite liked that.
Scott
Haha the man with the iron fists, hip hop samurai film. I quite liked that. I enjoyed it but I shouldn't have. The acting was horrendous and the story was a bit all over the place. I'm not ready to put myself through the second one just yet. I enjoyed it, I really shouldn't have though. The acting was horrendous and the story was a bit all over the place. Entertaining enough though. I won't quite put myself through
Kendo11
Fast & Furious 7 then. By no means the best film of the series, and in all honesty a little muddled at times. But I, like most of you, have seen probably hundreds of very very good films over the years, and the ending was so perfectly, beautifully done I have to say it's possibly one of the best, or at least top 3, endings of any film I have seen. Film was great as an action film Over the top in a few bits. The work by Pauls brothers were amazing, and near enough flawless integrating them. The ending was amazing, totally blown away, but I would of loved a race with the supra though
Scott
Watched F&F 7 last night. As a stand alone film it was absolutely dreadful. It was fun enough and entertaining enough for me not to turn it off but everything else was just OTT. As part of the franchise it's probably fit in quite nicely given the direction that it's going in. If you watch the first movie after watching this you will know exactly what I mean, they have lost all sense of reality and just gone for explosions and ridiculousness. The nod to Paul Walker at the end was nice though and I thought his Brother was spot on. How they did that all is beyond me but if I didn't know to look for the effects I genuinely wouldn't have noticed at all. This flick is by no means a classic, it's cheesy and over the top beyond belief but it's part of the F&F family now........
ellis
Taken 3 was the film of choice at the weekend. Dreadful, dreadful mess of a film. Should have left it alone at number 1. 2 was no comparison and number 3 was so weak that it was embarrassing to watch at times. Badly written, not overly well acted and I wanted them all to get Taken and shot in a back alley.

Scott
Loads of people say this, but never say it about any other films. Interstellar? Transformers? Avengers? Iron man? Guardians of the Galaxy? Any James Bond film? All those films you mention are exactly what they are. They don't try to be anything they aren't, or change from a reasonably realistic car orientated flick to a ridiculous over the top explosion fest where they all suddenly become munitions, mortal combat, infiltration specialists. It's a complete cash cow now, they'll keep spitting them out as long as people keep paying the money. Using the model of the original film wouldn't be possible to create so many sequels from...... hence why Tokyo Drift came out. It's not an evolution, it's an abortion now... all money driven (other than the sentiment at the end of the film). None of the films you have listed above are based on the realms of reality, other than perhaps interstellar and James Bond. I've not seen Interstellar, but is it really THAT far fetched? Does it not have the potential to be plausible? James Bond movies haven't changed, as far as I have seen, from the first to the last with regards to the formula so there can be no argument. Al Massey
All films are bigged up for the big screen. F&F 1 was even a B movie, and the only thing based on real life was the street racing scene. And in the film there was only 1 race. They were criminal masterminds though robbing trucks and getting away with it. If you notice with the franchise, it's just escalated as each movie came out, getting more and more and bigger and bigger. Which isn't that what career criminals do in real life? Yeah surely loads of it is dramatised and made for Hollywood but all films are. Movies are there for entertainment and the money. Bond was based on reality, just far fetched, interstellar a future reality where the laws of physics that we know don't exist. You have to take most films with a pinch of salt these days, but the past few years it's just the fast franchise that seems to take a beating
Scott
It's taken a beating for a reason though IMO. I'm a fairly objective movie viewer and I try to be as open minded as I can. I'm a F&F fan and I really don't like where the franchise has gone at all. I actually enjoyed F&F6 for what it was, even though it was stupid, the length of the runway gave me a good giggle, F&F7 I genuinely didn't like for the reasons I've stipulated.... it's all just gone too far, TOO over the top. I'm just being honest. I don't think there is any defence, whether a fan or not.... it's turned into complete nonsense. The exaggeration between the first and last F&F movies are leagues apart, the first was almost believable (hardly takes a mastermind to rob a truck in the way they did), the last one had them all breathing...... that was about the only believable thing I saw in the entire movie. Yet it's beat box office records within a day. I will admit this one seemed over the top and far fetched in parts. But you can never compare the latest film against the first. As I said it's all escalated, and the films aren't straight after each other, there is years in between each film. And the franchise will always get a beating, purely because it's so popular, not just by car guys, but movie fans. That's why it always makes a tonne of money and always breaks records. Scott
Watched Superfast. What an unbelievable mistake that was. Viewing the trailer I thought it looked like a bit of fun, it was just awful though. I'm going to try and get over the awfulness of that film by watching The Imitation Game. Looks more up my street, the music score so far has been especially brilliant (10 minutes in). Makes me pine for Sherlock though
Scott
Ahhhh the world makes sense again. What an absolutely fantastic film The Imitation Game is. A brilliant story of the War and the significance a small group of people, particularly one brilliant man, made behind the scenes. The Enigma code is only part of the story though, the real story is of Alan Turing..... the Father of AI. A must see for any proper movie lover IMO. Benedict Cumberbatch's performance is astounding. I haven't seen The Theory of Everything yet but if the choice of best actor at the Oscars isn't down to a politics thing then Eddie Redmayne must put on some show
JasonR24
Just got back from a late night showing of mad max fury road and I have to say after watching the originals this weekend, this new one was a massive let down. Honestly mad max 2 was in a different league. The castings weren't good. Tom hardy I expected to be better. He starts with a half decent Aussie accent then at the end just gives up completely. None of the other castings even bother apart from the older women. Overall not a great experience, started off very promising but after that first intro with the interceptor it declines quickly. Also not worth watching in 3D at all!
Kendo11
Wow Jason, totally different to my experience. I thought it was absolutely incredible, one of the best films I've ever seen at the cinema and the 3D was as effective as I've seen. Subtly used every now and then and in your face when it needs to be. The film and it's visuals were mesmerising for me, and it's a massive thing for cinema that films like this can get made in this day and age of spinoffs and ensemble universe movies. I thought it was absolutely incredible.
supra_ufo
im with Ken thought it was amazing in its own rights, the action scenes and visuals were brilliant. However I do feel Mad max's character was lacking in some areas, didn't feel he was violent enough. The scene where there in the swamp, it should of shown what he did to them...
