I watched Transcendence the other night, a relatively cautionary tale about AI with jonny Depp and Paul Bettany.

Watchable, but forgettable. Could have been much much more.

I agree totally. Had the makings of something excellent, but left too much unexplained, which ruined it for me

Few more for you.

The Drop: Gangster/mob film. Not really my cup of tea and a bit slow to get going... but it doesnt manage to. Worth a watch if nothing else is on.

The Imitation Game: Based on WW2 and the cracking of the enigma code. Good film, weak plot. worth a watch though.

Taken 3:

I wanted to enjoy this movie, I really did.

It's pretty much what you expect it to be, full of action and some 1 liners. The trouble is that the plot is just ridiculous. Rather than having a great idea and basing a film around it, they've clutched at straws and have based a plot around a film to stretch it out that bit longer.

It's not THAT bad, but it's a steady decline from the 1st movie to the 3rd. If you have enjoyed the franchise so far, then it's not that bad. As a standalone movie, it's awful.

Night crawler - When Lou Bloom, a driven man desperate for work, muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story. Aiding him in his effort is Nina, a TV-news veteran.

Its a good movie, didnt expect much from reading the description but I enjoyed it. Worth a watch.

We finally got around to seeing Guardians of the Galaxy. Just wow. Really loved it and wasn't expecting the roller coaster of emotions that came along. Groot was awesome. Top film, best this year so far for us.

Oh and Ascension.... this was unexpectedly good. I didn't know what to expect, and worried about cheesy acting/sets that tends to come with this sort of thing, but was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully they'll follow up with a series.

Amazing film, love all the Easter eggs in the film

I'm missing Ascension, should really become a series

Just catching up on this thread and most films I wanted to mention have been on already

Fury - great

Night crawler - nicely done by Jake G

The Judge - enjoyed a serious bit of acting for RDJ for once

Transcendence poorly finished off - bit rubbish

The Drop - kinda thought Hardy was asked to minimise the character and dumb him down which made more sense to me at the end of the film

Locke - I like that - I heard it was all shot in one scene no re-takes just all in one go, which made it pretty cool idea for me. Shame about the stupid Welsh accent though not really necessary

Gone girl - just bloody weird!

Our movie taste seems to be pretty similar lol.

50 shades of grey

So I didnt want to see this but I went with the better half and she enjoyed it but I have to admit I secertly enjoyed it too. IT was different and I cant quiet tell why I did like it but it was very slow going according the the girlfriend whos read the books. There was some good acting and difficult scenes.

Any ways id recommend giving it a go and you maybe surprised also brownie points hehe ;)

I'm having some bad luck on the movie front as late,

Bought "box trolls" in 3d as it was part of a deal, watched that last night - weird as hell! Not sure if it's aimed at kids or just odd people. Watchable. But strange.

And also watched "boy hood" - after seeing the trailer last year, I thought it looked great, and filming over 12 years with the same cast i thought was a brill idea, unfortunately the main boys character is just depressing! Slow talking, mumbles, quiet... Sure he's meant to be, but just makes it a very long movie which at over 2 hours already was!

Ted 2 is out soon, more my style [emoji106]

Not been on this thread for a while. I was really looking forward to watch Jupiter Ascending since it was announced and now planning to go watch it at the movies. Just thought I would ask if anyone watched it and what are their thoughts? Worth the ticket?

I am trying to stay away from spoilers so I don't watch any trailers or read critiques but I have a bad feeling about this. It will be really disappointing if Im right though.. I am a big fan of the directing duo.

One film I was waiting for release but for all the wrong reasons, was Horrible Bosses 2.

The first one was ok, but for me Jennifer Aniston made the film seeing her play that kind of role, hence I was looking forward to the 2nd one. I was disappointed as she was not in the film as much as the first one, although this time her character was just utter filth lol.

Movie as a whole is an ok time filler, not going to set your world on fire. But the limited JA parts make it worth while.

I watched Supremacy the other night. It was OK in some respects but not very good in others. One thing I found refreshing was that it felt quite realistic. It's based on a true story, but normally that means extremely loosely. In this the police seemed to act the way you would think they would, as did the main characters in the film. I wouldn't go out your way to watch it, but it's decent enough if there's nothing else on.

Foxcatcher for me tonight :)

Movie from last year but ya'll need to see it as it went under most people's radar...

FILTH with James McAvoy, superb acting from the entire cast, some properly hilarious scenes, good build up an just one of those rare movies that you want to see over and over again. Same sort of gritty realist like Fight Club, Harry Brown etc

"See, every time a woman drops her trousers: promotion. Every time a man drops theirs: disciplinary action. Where's the equality in that?"

Foxcatcher wasn't great. The whole movie felt a bit awkward to me and the parts played confused me a little. In the movie the main character comes off as mentally challenged, whereas in real life I don't think there were any issues with him. Perhaps that's just Channing Tatums way. The whole movie is clearly building up to the ending, which was a big let down for me. It was all so rushed, while the director took time over meaningless scenes. The wrestling of the actors was decent enough though, seemed like they put a decent amount of time into learning postures etc, which was good. The casting I thought was great, the acting was pretty good in some parts, Steve Carell was brilliant, but the unfolding of the story was a let down for me.

I thought Filth was awful. We got to the end of the movie and it was just a whole load of yang. McAvoy was absolutely brilliant in the part, all credit to him for that...... but the movie itself I thought was terrible.

Agree with that 100%, film was an utter bore throughout and if it was not for McAvoy's acting in it, the film would have been switched off.

Watched predestination last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is fairly predictable once you hit around the half way mark, as mentioned, but I don't think it was meant to be a jaw dropping reveal. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys the genre. I thought Ethan Hawke was on point too, played the part really well.

The one negative that I would say is that I thought the ending was rushed.

***SPOILERS****

We're just meant to assume that he doesn't break the chain and continues on his path gradually becoming more and more insane. If he believed strongly enough to shoot at the end, then surely his belief is strong enough to go back and have his device dealt with so that there is no chance of changing his mind? Or maybe it was deliberately left to our interpretation, it didn't feel very neat though.

Just watched this and need to vent!!!

*******BIG SPOILER*********

Pretty happy with myself as I did twig early - earlier than I usually would with this genre... Double organs and Paradox sorted that for me. (Maybe I wasn't that early?)

Anyway daft ending. Should have just taken his own life (literally! I wasn't being funny) then he isn't there to proceed with the chain. But this is my issue - the film cannot end cannot be resolved... Similarly it cannot start.... How can it start?? It can't.... Paradoxically, the ending is to have no ending.

Maybe we need a separate thread on this.
