ellis
Predestination was yesterday's watch - great film, really loved this. Very different take on the time travel/changing history paradox. Starts slow but stick with it, it's a real gem. Shall be watching this again.
Scott
In a similar vain I watched Time Lapse last night. I quite enjoyed it but it's in no way as good as some critics are making out. The character writing is awful, people aren't so 1 dimensional and stupid. The plot is quite well thought out though and it all comes together nicely in the end with some good reveals that weren't obvious. Reasonably enjoyable, nothing to set the world on fire though. Scott
That the one with the camera? Forgettably average. Yeah that's the one. I thought it was quite clever as an idea, the execution left a lot to be desired though. On IMDB people are raving about it, I can't understand why they are so over the top about it. It was definitely OK, but it could have been so much better with a bit of a better start and a hell of a lot more character depth. Everyone was sterotypical. Idea was good as you say, just ended up being very much like a run of the mill American teen slash type flick with twists not as clever as it thinks they are. Typical IMDB ravings and ratings. jamesmark
Watched 'We still kill the old way' Good old fashioned British gangster movie, not much depth to the storyline to be honest but still very enjoyable. Worth a watch.
Scott
Watched 'We still kill the old way' Good old fashioned British gangster movie, not much depth to the storyline to be honest but still very enjoyable. Worth a watch. Will keep an eye out for that, I've been struggling lately. Tonight was John Wick. I really wasn't expecting much at all from this but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very typical revenge plot, although for very atypical reasons. Full on action right from the start, a fantastic sound track and some really well thought out fight scenes throughout. Reeves played the part exactly as you would expect and it was absolutely spot on for the genre. A couple of familiar faces turn up in the cast too which just added to the enjoyment. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a good action/revenge flick. Don't expect any awards being dished out for it, but certainly scoop the brain out and enjoy

j_jza80
I'm really looking forward to Birdman. Michael Keaton was (is?) a very capable actor, as he proved in the two Tim Burton Batman films, and Beetlegeuse, and the critics are saying this is the performance of his career. Definitely, everything I have seen about it makes it sound fantastic. I'll need to hold off though as the Wife wants to see it too

Just looked at the story plot online and it strikes me as being a little strange. Let us know if its agood movie to watch
Scott
Movie night tonight. Sat and watched When the Game Stands Tall tonight. Quite enjoyed it, it's all been done before but it's a fairly true story based on a high school American football team that shattered the winning streak for any US sport. You've seen it all before, but it a nice feel good movie (chicken soup for the soul). No real bad guys in the movie, other than one obvious incident, so no one is really villainised in the film, which is refreshing. Has a real coming of age theme throughout. IMDB score is fair I would say, 6.7/10. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2247476 Before I go to Sleep is next
Scott
Before I go to sleep - Takes a little bit to get going, once it does it goes fast and furious. I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of this film, it was a little thin in areas (part acting could have been better in places) but it made up for that with the plot. Pretty good suspense thriller, recommended. Girl wakes up with no memory of the past (think 50 first dates). Previous trauma has caused this. Each day starts a fresh but she keeps a video diary to keep her up to date with what's going on. So many questions with each day re-setting leads to confusion and a lot of zebras for her
Scott
It's not a movie, but I'm onto House again for the 3rd time around. Absolutely must see show IMO, character rich with fantastic development throughout. If you haven't seen it before, it's on Netflix UK & US, free for a month... you won't look back
Kendo11
An interesting film is on film 4 tonight called The Bay, seems to have very positive reviews from critics, just hope it's not a cloverfield copy.
Scott
It made about £30k, so I wouldn't hold out too much hope
jamesmark
Went to cinema to see Taken 3 this afternoon. Was ok, not a total write-off but I kinda had same thought as my wife, if they bring out another one to flog the horse I will wait till it comes out on download. ***kinda a little spoiler*** No one was taken this time per se, but have left it wide open on who would be taken next time if they decide on making another. Went to see this today as well and have to say I did enjoy most of it. What I hated though was how in some action films they do close up shots for effect. In this though they take it to the next level and it's like someone has thrown the camera at someone in a close up. It's horrendous and really ruins some scenes. Like there's a lorry crash scene and the camera is so close to the lorry it may as well just be the colour of the container..... Apart from that it wasn't a terrible film. Also seen exodus recently which was a better film although that had its issues too.. Hoping for some better films this year!
Abz
Watched The Drop last night. Not by any means brilliant but a really enjoyable watch regardless. Very good performance by Tom Hardy, although his character was slightly confusing throughout. Not too much of a plot to discuss, fairly straight forward. Pub is used for money drop offs for a mob. The owner used to be a bit of a boss himself till he was taken over by the current outfit, making him a bit of a spare wheel. Hardy's character Bob was his right hand man, now he just tends bar. Just watched The Drop, found it incredibly slow, felt like it was dragged out quite a bit. Agreed on Tom Hardy.
Kendo11
Just finished with The Bay on film 4. Relatively decent low budget found footage film. More conspiracy than horror which made it more interesting than a lot of similar films. Not brilliant but watchable. Most surprising was that Barry Levinson directed it who also directed Rain Man and Good Morning Vietnam.
jamesmark
Tonight's viewing was 'Son of a Gun'. Not a bad movie, was crying out for a lot more action to be honest. I would say it is a 'if nothing else on' type of movie

JasonR24
Anyone seen "The Theory of Everything" and "The Imitation Game"? I've seen the imitation game which is a great movie. Obviously not an action film but a well told story with a great cast. Kiera knightly can seem a bit flat sometimes but other than that I thought it was great. Will be seeing theory of everything soon!
