Al Massey
Watched "Jack Reacher" the other day. It's about a homicide investigator that digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims. A very well thought out film that kept me hooked from start to finish with a few humorous moments thrown in. 4/5 The books are great apparently, My dads read them all and loved them. I thought the film was great, even though Reacher is supposed to be 6ft odd and Tom cruise is 4ft nothing, they did really well.
dangerous brain
Watched the new Paddington movie yesterday. Was surprisingly good. I can see why they gave it a PG as the early scenes might be a bit scary for some kids and some elements are a bit ominous. As it isn't an animated film the dangerous things like flying behind a bus and filling the bathroom full of water could be deemed as inciting impressionable kids to daft behaviour (bearing in mind kids jumped off rooves when super-man first came out lol) On a whole though I haven't laughed out loud so much at a film in a long time. The story was pacy enough to hold my attention all the way through without being in your face all the way through. A good film that the whole family can watch together as the adults can get the subtle sub-humour whilst the slapstick entertains the kids and the ladies can enjoy the romantic angle
Scott
MORE SPOILERS My understanding is that by shooting he didn't break the chain, like his grown up self told him. He must have done the same. Quite cool. ***CONTINUED SPOILERS**** Yeah, I took that part of it with a pinch of salt though. How can he say that the only way to break the chain is by not shooting him.... there are infinite other opportunities to break the chain, not blowing up the first building would be one I felt this was the part that really needed a LOT more time spent on it. Why did he think the agency were the "bad guys", was there evidence of that being the case, etc. If this was explored properly this really could have been the gotcha of the movie, with the fairly obvious reveal being a red herring. For the agency to be seen manipulating time to suit their own ends while he figured it out and tried to reverse their plot, becoming more and more insane in the process. It would have made for a great ending IMO.
kokoro
Safety Not Guaranteed for us tonight - a time travel adventure!?!? On the rolling credits my first thought was wow. Second thought was that this was the best movie I've seen in ages. It had a Wes Anderson feel to it, but without the weirdness. The acting was superb. It was full of charm and sweet characters which made you think. It's listed as a comedy and it did make us laugh, a lot, but it's also a sci fi flick as well as a bit of a romance. It's an emo/indie kind of movie which I guess resonated a lot with me. I won't spoil the story for others, but the ending was fantastic. All the way through we were trying to guess how it would end. Let's just say I got the ending I was hoping for. Oh and leave this here, a snippet of dialogue from the movie that kept making us laugh: Jeff: [after Kenneth steals some lasers] Fuckin' lasers? Arnau: What kind of lasers? Darius: I don't know, I'm not a freakin' storm trooper. Arnau: Stormtroopers don't know anything about lasers or time-travel. They're blue-collar workers. Jack Reacher is 6' 5" tall - a big man who casts a small shadow, not a dwarf who barely casts a shadow! He's ex-military and not a homicide investigator. Yeah the casting wasn't great for that one IMO, the movie is good though. Homicide investigator is inaccurate, he was ex military. In the military he became a specialist in internal investigations and after a while left then went dark. Cruise did OK in the part IMO though, could have been worse - - - Updated - - - Safety Not Guaranteed for us tonight - a time travel adventure!?!? On the rolling credits my first thought was wow. Rummy
He's ex-military and not a homicide investigator. Ha! That's what I get for being lazy and cut and pasting the synopsis from IMDB!

After reading every one of Lee Child's Reacher books I, along with 99% of Reacher fans, sat with our head in our hands when Cruise determined that he'd be Reacher. Egotistical little midget - he should have cast somebody who really could have lived up to the part.

I haven't read the books, but after finding out from my dad about teacher I was a little disappointed. My dad won't watch the film because of the midget lol
supra_ufo
Thoughts on this? http://www.terminatorgenesismovie.com/ Im looking forward to it, I thought salvation was very good compared to the joke T3 was. Although Christian Bale isnt playing Jon Connor what makes up for it is Emilia Clarke (blonde bird from game of thrones) is playing sarah o'connor.. Kendo11
Looking forward to it, trailer tomorrow. Although I'm not entirely sure of the rumours going round that the time line changed and Sarah Connor in fact is a wimp that calls the terminator 'pops'. As a huge fan of the earlier ones in particular this could ruin the whole thing for me.

I so hope this isn't the way they have went with the franchise. Salvation was absolutely brilliant, love him or hate him Bale made the movie. j_jza80
Emilia Clarke (blonde bird from game of thrones) is playing sarah o'connor.. Which is ironic, as one of her fellow cast members on Game of Thrones has also played Sarah Connor http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851851/

I so hope this isn't the way they have went with the franchise. Salvation was absolutely brilliant, love him or hate him Bale made the movie. It was a missed opportunity for me. Very good yes, but lots of 'book of eli' type desolation, not enough warfare. And pink lasers. I'll try to find the link re the new one...
