Mini Movie Review

Interview with a vampire time now. Fantastic movie, possibly lost in the modern horror genre but it was brilliant in the 90s. It may be an age thing but it really ticked all the boxes for me (I was 14), I was disappointed to read Brad Pitt's disdain to the entire movie experience. One thing that really annoyed me was his inability to survive in a work place where he entered a building in the dark in the morning only to exit it in the dark at night. IIRC he described it as "no way to live". Clearly completely oblivious to the modern working people who work shifts in order to make a reasonable wage. I often go to work at 6 in the morning, pitch black, only to exit at 6 at night, still pitch black, there is nothing horrendous about this for me...... its a means to an end in order to make a reasonable wage.

I guess you get used to a certain lifestyle though, I'm ok with that, it would just be nice if people would start seeing the world from the majority's point of view rather than the minority.

I personally think Ex Machina is going to be one worth watching out for. Looks like one of those that really messes with your head. It's an Alex Garland (Sunshine, The Beach, 28 Days Later etc), so you know it's going to be at least a little messed up - link

Tonight's offering was a little different - Moneyball. The boyfriend has been on at me for ages to watch this, and I really didn't fancy it. To be honest, I thought it was kind of meh right up until Jonah Hill made an appearance, after that the film really improved and I have to admit, it was really enjoyable and I'm glad to have seen it. It had that warm, fuzzy feeling (with a tinge of sadness) that you seem to only get from 80's movies (kind of like Youngblood, Mighty Ducks etc).

Careful, don't let the guys know you're a chick :D

Ex Machina is next year anyway. I wasn't a big fan of Sunshine and The Beach was OK. 28 days later was brilliant though.

I'm gonna give moneyball a go right now, never seen it and I'm a bit bored. Babylon AD is on just now but it's not doing it for me, seen it before. I watched The Monster Squad earlier tonight, with my little one, it's a really brilliant 80s film.. brought back a lot of nostalgic memories and it ticks every 80s cliché box there is.

Edit: Went onto netflix to see if Moneyball was there, unfortunately it's going to have to wait till next time as Snowpiercer just popped up as a highlight on netflix so it got the go-ahead :D

Snowpiercer is looking good so far. There's a female Bricktop in it, so that's keeping me entertained :D

Wish I'd not cancelled Netflix now, been wanting to see that for a while.

Scrolling through sky on demand and I'm suffering that common film lovers problem, that you've already seen most of them twice lol

You are literally the only person I know to have cancelled Netflix. I couldn't be without it, easily the best online service available IMO. Having said that, it's "ace" up the sleeve is the fact that the American netflix is available if you know what you're doing (Hence how I'm watching Snowpiercer).

BTW, it's a brilliantly executed movie. It has obvious hints of the hunger games about it, which is a bit strange, but given the genre it's very enjoyable.

Might try to pick it up on dvd.

To be honest I cancelled a while back because the films on demand were only getting refreshed every month or so and for example in the scifi section there would typically be about 10 films of interest and around 352 of utter tripe.

If it's improved since I cancelled about a year ago I might give it another look.

It depends what you are after really. Did you use the US workaround to get the US catalogue? It's a mile better than the UK, night and day really.

The way I always looked at it was as a comparison with Sky Movies or a video rental. It's £7 a month (it's £6 for me for being loyal) and that would easily be spent in a week watching 2 movies on rental or a subscription to sky.

I have no sky subscription. I use Netflix as my main legitimate source of entertainment. I rarely even watch live TV to be honest.

Thoroughly enjoyed snowpiercer, the ending was awful but I thought the rest of the film was pretty well made. It's disappointing as a little extra thought and cleverness could have made for a really well rounded end.

I would definitely recommend it. It's not a double viewer though, what there is to see is seen on the first viewing.

BTW, your boyfriend nailed Moneyball. I'm only 20 minutes in and I know I'm going to love it. It's one of those little gems that's flown completely under the radar. thoroughly enjoying it, and as cheesy as I know it'll be.... I know I'll continue to enjoy it :)

Moneyball is a great movie!

I just watched 'draft day' last week, some big names in it, but unless the like american football, you'll prob think it's crap! I thought it was ok.

Also on my 2 week field break ive watched...

A million ways to die in the west, stupid humour, loved it.

Fury, great movie from start to finish. Little disappointed to find out it wasn't based on a true story like I believed when they started to make it.

Ninja turtles, hmmm. Brought back memories - ok movie.

End of days, really enjoyed it.

The expendables 3, action movie cheese. Watchable but pretty poor.

The art of the steel, kurt Russell! Not seen him in years (and he's also in fast furious 7!) Decent watch.

Sabotage, I liked this, lil different to most action movies. Worth watching.

Anabell is worth a watch but wish i didnt go to the cinema to watch it. still it has good jwumpy bits in it. i would give it a 6/10 but it is predictable.

I was exactly the same with this. If it wasn't for the fantastic sound it wouldn't have panned big-style. It was somewhat over the top but it always made an impact.

Finished off the Turtles last night. It was OK, certainly didn't blow me away. As with a lot of movies nowadays they have taken things a little too far. IMO the new ridiculousness isn't a patch on the old ridiculousness.... it's just too ridiculous.

In time tonight. I remember quite enjoying this. It isn't perfect by any means, but a solid enough entertaining film.

Brief plot: The world runs on time. Everyone ages till 25 and then effectively dies if they don't have "time". Time is earned, traded, gambled, etc. When your time runs out.... you die. Step in poor bloke from poor district, lives day to day making barely enough "time" to survive, makes his time daily and splits it with his mum.... one day time runs out..... the next it's almost infinite, something's gotta give.
