Scott
Its hollywood, its Tom Cruise and it's exactly whats needed at the moment. Great action movie imo. Ove not eben finished it andmI'm loving it. Nothing flash, or fancy, just old fashioned entertainment.
Kendo11
Looking forward to it. Elysium for me tonight again. Seen it already but very enjoyable.
Scott
Crikey, the ole phone predictive went riot up there lmfao. Not a lot to say about Edge of Tomorrow. it's exactly what you would expect from this type of movie and delivers in absolute spades!! Spoiler: Please don't read if you want to watch this film with no pre-conceptions. I watched in this manner and I absolutely loved the film. I had no idea of the plot and thoroughly enjoyed the "surprises". For those that don't care, it's a cross between Deja Vu/Source Code and Starship Troopers. Although the plot is similar, it's done on a much bigger stage and fantastically so. As I said, it's Hollywood so don't expect too much depth, it's the right amount of entertainment though and I really enjoyed it. There are a few "hmmm"moments, such as when he could have immediately killed himself and sorted the whole situation.... but still carried on regardless and ended up stranded.... but that had to be done for the sake of the action/storyline/drama etc. Those few very minor exceptions aside, it's a very well scripted/played out movie and thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to it. Elysium for me tonight again. Seen it already but very enjoyable. Must admit, I thought that was OK but nothing startling. The exoskeletons are similar to this though
Kendo11
Skipped the spoilers thanks for the warning dude. But yeah I did enjoy elysium a lot again, Klomkamp has huge potential, I loved district 9 too. The ideas of the 'used' technology are very similar to what Ridley Scott started in Alien. I loved the exoskeletons too (reminded me very much of Robopocalpsye, very good book I read recently) and the 'chemrail' weapons took me back many years to playing quake and early red faction games online! kokoro
Elysium is another film I really enjoyed. I'm still on the look out for Snowpiercer, but the release for that was a little odd...
Kendo11
Yeah I keep searching for it, last I heard it was getting released (or re released) at the cinema at the end of the year
kokoro
Yeah I keep searching for it, last I heard it was getting released (or re released) at the cinema at the end of the year It feels like years ago when I first saw the trailer. I think I saw something about a bluray release in October...
Fizzy T
I watched a movie called "Mothers Day" the other night, a 2010 movie that I'd missed. I must say it really shocked me how good it was, My house mate watched it on my recommendation and he usually hates everything but even he loved it. It's got the guy who played Ice man from Xmen "Shawn Ashmore" and the hot red head Jessica from True Blood "Deborah Ann Woll" in it. The lead actress was a woman called "Rebecca De Mornay", Personally I couldn't pick out anything she'd been in before from my head but she played one hell of a role. The basic premise of the movie is a couple buy a house and hold out during a nasty storm during a tornado warning, they get some unexpected guests
Scott
Under the Skin tonight. The intro is very promising, very creepy but very different..... loving it.
Scott
Watched "Under the skin" for the second time yesterday. First time I watched it I was let down a bit because I was expecting something totally different. This time I really enjoyed it! It is a very weird movie but highly recommended! Just turn off the lights and up the volume! Scarlet is stunning! Just finished this movie. It's very different from the norm, I actually really enjoyed it. I felt the middle was a little bit flat as there wasn't really any scene to set up for, but the beginning and the end were excellent. Bit of an arty film so definitely won't be for everyone. I thought Scarlett was absolutely fantastic and it was nice to see an actress looking completely natural on screen (and absolutely stunning). Most scenes at the beginning of the film were actually not staged. Scarlett was told to go out and drive around in the van trying to pick guys up. She was recognised in a few attempts too lol. The music score was bone chilling
Wez
Under the skin was a little too arty for my tastes, didnt even make it all the way through Anyone been watching the series Banshee, pretty good so far.
Kendo11
Michael Douglas classic Falling Down for me before bed, quite apt with the mood I'm in. Emporer with Tommy Lee Jones tomorrow night looks interesting.
ellis
A few that are worth watching, in my opinion are: Bad Words - Jason Bateman I like, always good for a laugh Plastic - based on a true story about credit card fraudsters but with a little twist! Chef - great feel good film Draft Day - good watch Casino Jack - another Kevin Spacey quality film An Adventure in Space & Time - the story of Doctor Who's beginnings - David Bradley is brilliant in it
Scott
Watched 'Trouble with the Curve' yesterday. Stars and produced by Clint Eastwood. Absolutely brilliant film, based around him being a baseball scout and issues with family (best way to explain without spoiler) Thoroughly recommend a watch even if you, like me know feck all about baseball. Just finishing this off just now. Quite enjoyed it, Eastwood is absolutely brilliant in it, very funny. Typical feel good movie, very predictable but very enjoyable at the same time. As said above, the plot centres around baseball. What's better, instinct and experience or the internet with a statistical program? Clint is the old school, Matthew Lillard is the new breed reliant on all things technology.
kokoro
Just watched Red Lights. Weird and bizarre, yet surprisingly engrossing and enjoyable.
Scott
Just watched Red Lights. Weird and bizarre, yet surprisingly engrossing and enjoyable. De Niro and Weaver? Not seen it before.
kokoro
De Niro and Weaver? Not seen it before. That's the one. It was awkward, almost in an artsy way. The ending obviously left some people aggrieved, but I liked the creepiness of it and how it was odd and untidy.
Kendo11
Good film, not perfect but pretty good
Kendo11
Just watched 'Emperor', based on the Americans deciding whether Emperor Hirohito should stand trial for war crimes at the end of ww2. Good film, like all things Japanese I found it very interesting. Skirted around a lot of issues though, like the well documented Japanese brutality and things like Unit 731, and put a lot of emphasis on the destruction of Tokyo. Still a good watch though, Matthew Fox is still an underrated actor in my opinion. Tommy Lee Jones was perfect as always.
ozz
I watched Odd Thomas last night, hadn't heard of it before but actually really enjoyed it. A bit like a kick ass version of 6th Sense. Also watched Enders game, not bad really, again quite enjoyed it. Close to the book but a lot to try and get across, felt rushed.
Scott
The Signal is tonights viewing. 25 mins in and the big hook has been revealed. Loving it so far. 37 mins in, ending predicted. Still loving it. 50 mins in. Fairly certain my prediction is wrong. Dragging on a tiny bit, but really enjoying it. As long as this ending doesn't suck it's a win IMO. Finale - Can't be right all the time, but in this case I was. Totally threw me off my own scent though so fairly open until the end. Really enjoyed this. It definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea and it won't win any Oscars. I wasn't really impressed by the leads performance but the movie overall was really enjoyable. 7/10 for me. How ironic that the trailer says "Not a movie you'll forget anytime soon", yet I had to watch the trailer to remember what it was about
