996 Turbo Project! ***Page 3 Update***

Hi guys

 

After moving on from my Single 6 Supra i brought my dream car, a 996 Turbo with 46,000M in fantastic condition.

 

Got a few pictures for you lot, nothing like the Supra as i am TRYING to keep it stock and original.... :taped:

 

Anyway here she is:

I gave her a full service and changed the CD player for something a little more modern.

 

Next up was the brakes, the lacquer was starting to peel of the calipers and looked a bit messy, so i set to work.

 

I sent away the calipers and heres what came back!

Shot blasted, powder coated and new seals with stainless steel nipples. :)

 

While i was there i removed all the steel bolts and replaced with stainless steel

Also waxed oil'ed the pipes and other parts

Fitted all new link pipes, brackets and bolts along with stainless steel lines

New pads, discs were ok so bells primed and painted

Great motors, been tempted for a while too :thumbs:

Go for it! Amazing cars, no match for a Single on a straight road but would mash one in a corner. You get a good 570NM at 2700RPM with no lag which means leaving a corner your back on the power while the Supra would still be spooling. :)

Is yours tip or 6 speed ?? Id put mine up against any single sup up to about 650 ish at the moment, its the way it puts the power down !!! Hopefully ill be around 600hp in a week or so as the motors out at the moment.

Hi guys bit of an update!

 

Tried a new exhaust and did a few more bits that I have been wanting to do.

 

Started stripping the rear end, lights and bumper removed.

Found one of the top boost pipes was not properly connected! Always boosted ok. With that in mind, intercooler out

Here you can see the situation that greets most Turbo owners… rusty nuts!

The manifold to head bolts were the same… (I removed one and then took the pic)

Thankfully they all came undone with no snapped bolts!

 

I replaced all of them with new Stainless steel bolts!

The turbo’s and manifolds were not so easy…

Heatshields and mounts well rusted!

However after lots of heat with a Oxycet torch we had them off!

Drivers side ready for new exhaust! New threads and brass nuts so no more corrosion, also replaced the turbo mount bolt and nut for stainless

Also as I was there I decided to do a plug and coil pack change!

This is a 48K mile coil pack! Good job I changed them

Also stripped and repainted the coil pack covers, using more stainless bolts

Also replaced the alternator reg and rear bearing as it was not charging well

I wanted to replace the side bumper heatshields as they were corroded. I didn’t want to use the original fixing method as they seem to rust up, so I modified them to take stainless steel fixings

 

Stripped the old intercooler brackets down

These hold the heatshilds at the bottom of the bumper, you can see how rusty they get

So cut off the old fixings and drilled a hole out in the same location as they were in.

Then welded some stainless bolts in to the holes

And there we go, stainless fixings that will always come undone

Also used some new arch liner fixings as the old ones were rusty

Stripped the paint of the brackets and gave them a primer and paint

Also gave the intercoolers a good clean!

Got some new heatshields to replace my old rotting ones

Originally the heatshields are direct on the steel frames which I imagine helps wear them away until the fall apart and rattle.

 

So with this in mind I brought a sheet of rubber and cut washers to stop them rubbing
