264 camshafts

I'm due a remap and I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to Jun or BC 264 camshafts. Do they effect drivability in any way? Would it be advisable to have adjustable cam pulleys put in as well and is it a worthwhile "bang for buck" upgrade Hp wise?

I'm currently running a JSpec, 6 with BL T67dbb Single, 800cc injectors and Apexi PFC. Any advice appreciated :)

They will increase top end power but the turbo would spool a bit later. Cam gears would be a good buy too as you can then set the cams up properly for your engine

Oh, in terms of 'bang for buck' it's generally not a cheap thing to do and whether or not it's worth it depends on the intended use for the car.

Yeah that, my setup is almost identical to yours, but with 264 cams. I definitely think it doesn't make town driving as nice as to when it was stock. What sort of power are you making at the minute?

Hmm, that's what I was afraid of as it's my daily drive as well. Last dyno she was making 545FWHP/460RWHP @ 1.3 bar, but that was a few years ago and I think she needs a little tweaking now.

You've put this into perspective for me as I have no real focus for the upgrade, just to make more power really. My car fund has been burning a hole in my pocket for a few months!

Thanks for the replies guys. She's in for a major service ,valve seals and MOT next month so looks like it'll make more sense spending money on a Wheel refurb, map tweak and maybe some bigger front stoppers :)

264 cams are a great upgrade from stock. You'll pull hard to the redline rather than choking up over 5500rpm. Adjustable cam gears would be a good move to get the idle smoother and I don't think you'd really notice any low down loss or later spooling. Your map will need tweaking up top though, as it'll run a bit lean due to the better VE of the engine there.

Nicely put :)

From memory the JUN and BC have higher lift compared to the HKS units.

264 is still fairly tame, will shift the power curve right a few hundred rpm, like Ian said it will deff feel better above 5000rpm. Although the stock jspec do have lovely grunt low down for town driving.

Cam gears are recommended to dial them in properly.

Without any changes you'll run richer low down and leaner up top without tweaking the map ;)
