BOB B
Hi, I stripped all my brakes down to refurbish them about two months ago, and I am now in the process of putting them back together, I noticed when I stripped the rears they were different to the UK ones I am used to, the brakes are from a 98 J spec and they are the larger ones (two piston). Although they were not the same set up, I thought (wrongly) that I would be able to remember how to put them back together. The way I have them now can be seen in the picture and they will not fit over the new OE discs, if I place them both on the same pad then one of the plates gets in the way of the piston, I usually take photo's in situations like this but I must have missed this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bob.
Chris Bailey
I think on the larger uk brakes you have to cut the backing plate, not 100% sure though.
BOB B
No one else got any info on this? surely some one with a facelift which has a big brake set up could have a look at thiers and give me a buzz.
Dnk
They look the same as what you get on a UK car to me other than the springs and plates. Do they fit if you remove the springs and plates ? they look rather homemade to me and not required, i'd be filing those in the bin Why would you have springs pushing one end of the pads onto the disc, or if they were on one pad pushing it onto the disc. Remove and all should be fine and just get the top spring plate that hooks over the pins from Toyota Edited April 29, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)
Al Massey
Yeah those springs and plates don't look right :/

BOB B
There were no anti squeal shims at all on the rear brakes, so does it need them? Some of the later jap cars came with the option of the bigger brake set ups, so when I saw the plates and springs I thought it was just a different method. Dnk
No you don't need the shims but i'd fit the anti rattle spring, just use a smear of copper grease on the back of the pads and down the sides, a bit on the pins too Edited April 29, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)
