markssupra
Hi all, I need some advice on fitting the rings on Mahle forged pistons. Instructions are a little vague on which ring is which. The pistons have 3 deep grooves and 1 shallow groove beneath the top groove which I assume does not have a ring fitted as it is not very deep. The engine machine shop that gapped all my rings taped them together and numbered the set of rings for each piston. I have 5 rings in each set, 1 silver at 1.15mm thick 1 black at 1.15mm thick 2 black at 0.42mm thick (oil ring rail) 1 sguiggly at 2.46mm thick which i assume is the oil expander ring. Which ring is which as the supplied diagram only shows where to place the gaps. I think the 2 thin rings go either side of the oil expander ring in to the wide groove at the bottom of the piston but which ring is the top compression ring and which the 2nd compression ring? Neither of them have a step or any difference apart from the colour.
markssupra
I think I have found what I need. Looking more closely at the rings I have I can actually see the differences. Why could they not include this little extra info with the rings?
