MattP
This is the oil that changed its name from silkolene? The 5w/40 wont be too thin on my ageing engine will it? as I usually used semi synthetic 10/40 on my old N/As Edited April 21, 2014 by MattP (see edit history)
Chris Bailey
Theres a thread somewhere that shows different engine oil grades for the supra. If I remember rightly BPU was something like 10w-
Dnk
10w 40 Mobil 1 fully synthetic in my car at that mileage, full bpu and was running as sweet as a nut at 137,000 miles when i sold it. Still on original turbos, oil pump etc I recently priced up the oil for my BMW and i can get it cheaper from the main dealer than Opie sell it for Edited April 21, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)

Swampy442
A good quality 10w40 semi synth will be perfectly fine.

Plenty of members use Halfords own brand of Oil. the Viscosity is important - the brand far less so.

Toyota spec'd a semi synth in 1991, with the advances in oil since then I see no need whatsoever to stray from that.

That was my concern I once put a branded fully synthetic oil as advised on imoc in my MR2 Turbo the car had no leaks and just burned the oil... I went back to semi 10/40 and never used any oil over the next 4 years of owning it. I'm not sure what Oil Jurgen puts In them on import
Mk4Gaz
I agree with the above, I use 10w 40 semi, normally shell helix, magnatec, or millers - and change it every 6 months, regardless of mileage. I do the filter every 2nd oil change, with a genuine Toyota one.

It's natural to want the best for ones pride and joy - that is what most companies play to and most including myself have fallen victim to it.
