Need advice/help. Aerotop shell with he engine turbo'd wiper miss connection

Crash Bandicoot

Recommended Posts

my problem, auto jap aerotop shell with manual jap engine loom and many mods to the original 2jzge engine which is now turbo running TT rockers and ignition... (If that matters)

Problem with wiring from wiper stalk operating abs instead of wipers as it should :(

wires going into the green block on the connector bank behind the passenger kick panel are wired up completely different :/

I want both the abs and wipers working but cant comprehend how im going to do it :(

Has anyone else put a manual in an aerotop and come across this?

I can provide any info needed to problem solve.

I have a permanent live feed to the front wiper motor but no function selection, the stalk has tested to be fine and the motor has also been tested to be fine with using a spare wire and it moves the motor.

What I ideally need is:

To know if the motor parks the wiper in its stop position through the motor electrics?

And ideally the wiring diagrams for the green connector block in the passenger foot well bank behind the kick panel for both auto aerotop and manual non turbo. both sides of the plug and clip to tell me if i can swap the order of the wires in the blocks to get it to work.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated as im days away from it being on the road :(

I would have thought the ABS and ancillary side of things would be completely separate.

The permanent live to the wiper with an earth to the motor will see the motor function, but would have thought there should be a relay in there somewhere.

The ABS wiring should be directly behind where the stereo is, which will give you the wire colours for each corner.

I reckon as you probably already know, something has been wired in to the wrong thing somewhere.

You need to look through the wiring diagrams, and trace out the all the junctions making sure the ones you have connected are the right ones.

Something worth noting is that some black wires can be switched lives, so they are not all earths.

Darren raises a very good starting point regarding good quality earths, if they aren't good you can get some strange problems.

Tested the earths and theyre all good, im 99% positive its down to the one connecting block, the ins and outs are all wanky and dont match up from the cabin loom that came with the car to the engine loom i have put in with the engine. Everything else seems to be ok. How close are you pudsey? Fancy coming and having a peek when your free?

Having recently fitted a Mk4 engine (2JZ-GE) in my Mk3 Supra, I can understand the problems you are having !

Before I did my engine swap I spent MONTHS going through the circuit diagrams for the Mk3 and the Mk4 to make sure I would end up with everything working OK . . . Not just the Engine itself (including HT and Fuel) . . . but all the additional stuff too, like ABS, Heater, Aircon, all Instruments, etc etc.

What has the latter got to do with an engine swap? Well the problem is that Toyota use SOME wires in the Engine Loom for those non-engine things - it's so they can get the wires from the cabin to the engine bay.

The problem is that what Connectors they use doesn't only depend on the model - they vary depending on the year! I thought I had everything sussed from all the research I did, but then found that one of my Body Connectors on the Engine Loom was completely different to either the Facelift or Pre-Facelift plugs I had seen details for. So I ended up having to suss which wires were which from their colour codes - and given that some were the same, that wasn't easy! (I actually found an Aristo diagram that used this different plug, which was a slight help. but again some of the wires were different)

So that is what you're up against, I'm afraid . . . you need to try and track down circuit diagrams (with all the wiring colour codes and connector details) for the model your engine came from, as well as your shell . . . only THEN will you see what wires need connecting.

What surprises me with YOUR situation is that you make it sound as if you just plugged everything in, but you ended up with these weird results. Toyota normally use different Plugs on different models to at least stop that happening.

Or did you actually cut and join wires? (in which case you've joined the wrong ones!) EDIT: Just re-read your post . . . so are you saying the Green connector IS the same, but the wires are different?

If that's the case, here's something that will help you. Toyota usually use the SAME colour wires for the same function, even on different models . . . so that also means the wires are usually the same colour on either side of a connector. So it may just be a case of swapping which wires go to which pin to match them up (you can actually remove them from the plugs - see the TSRM)

FYI the wiper always has a permanent +12V feed (through the ignition switch), so it will keep moving and park, even if you turn it off mid cycle. And I don't think your problems will be faulty earths.

Josh, I'd be very careful just going on kerons word, i did so and came to this, i bought the aerotop from keron... He said all my parts will plug and play after going through all the details, he also left me with less in the car than he promised and alot of wires in the car loom were cut along with parts missing like the driver window motor. Consideing i payed £1500 for litterally a bare/ only just rolling shell i think i was well and truely seen off. making a weekend job turn into a 3-4 month job. Bit naughty considering his reputation on here. But that's another matter.

Roger, the green connector block is the same and plugs in but the wires are in different positions either side of the plug. Plus different number of wires going into both sides of the connector.

Well is everything else working fine APART from the wipers and the ABS?

If so, the first thing I would do is look at the Circuit Diagrams and see what color wires are used for all the Wiper and ABS wires

Then I would MOVE any of those coloured wires in the connector that don't marry up with the same colours on the corresponding pins on the other side of the connector.

(Best to remove the pins with the wires attached, if you can suss how to do that - see the TSRM. Alternatively cut/join/solder/sleeve the wires just before they go in the plug)

Quick update:

thanks to Beast_drc for the wiring diagrams and help on what wires need to be ran where.

It seems that between the aerotop cabin loom and hardtop engine loom there are miss-match wires going into connectors AC1, AC4 and AC5. The pin outs are not the same on a few wires on these plugs.

Re-wiring it all today, if all goes well then i will HIGHLY RECOMMEND BEAST_drc for his work and will be a very happy bunny!!

Hopefully my supra will be MOT'd and on the road next week :) :) :)

So just to clarify (for future reference) are you saying that the Connectors are actually the SAME, but some of the wires are on different pins?

At least on the Mk3 Supra, when the wiring is DIFFERENT (like pre/post facelift) Toyota used different connectors, so you know !

Yes, the connectors are the same and clip together but the pin outs are different on AC1, AC4 and AC5

That's really stupid, isn't it?!

As I mentioned, Toyota PREVIOUSLY always used different connectors for different versions of the same car (on the Mk3 Supras, for example), so there would be no issues like you have had! You would have thought they would have continued that practice . . .
