HKS Fcon Vpro Gold locked??

Hi im in the process off buying a 2nd hand HKS fcon vpro gold. So i thought i ring a hks dealer and ask them about mapping it. And he said if its 2nd hand then its going to be no use since these ecu's are password protected by mappers. So unless i have that password then its no use.

Anyone else had this problem with the hks fcon vpro gold??

I belive this may be true. Pretty sure the Do Luck supra is running one of these and it was locked by Mr Ito. Not sure if there is a way to reset it though; you'd lose the existing map I suspect but that wouldn't be a problem if your fitting it to another car.

IMHO limiting your mapping options with a UK market odd ball ECU is very counter productive. Asa you can see from the above HKS Japan charge a fee to wipe and unlock, which is something I would find unacceptable. Whether a UK FCON specialist can do this and how much they'd charge is not something I have tried to find out. I would definitely go Motec, Syvecs, GEMS or other well known ECU with proper UK support and a wide choice of mappers truly familiar with the thing. There's probably nothing wrong as such with the HKS, but why compromise choice and knowledge base with such an important item?

Any of these HKS ecu's that are passworded can be wiped to factory reset by using jumpers inside the ecu.

reason I know this is cause I bought a used 1 myself from an evo that was pass worded and my mapper Greg at pro tuner (Redditch) reset it and mapped it to my car.

He also pass worded it for me so I cant access it but he will give me the pass if I decided to take to another mapper.

Its a safe guard so if you decide to get another mapper mess and blow your car up then you cant blame the original mapper.

I know of a guy that sell's the software that un-locks it so anybody can map it, I will PM you.

What this guy said!

I wouldn't let all the horror stories put you off, there are ways around the security issues. The power writer software isn't the same for all the versions of the f-con though. there should be a coloured round sticker onn the front of the unit to show which version it is, or you can be doubly sure by checking your serial number against the ones listed on the HKS Europe website.

I also have the Hks wideband/knock sensor which I personally think makes for a great set up.

This obviously is dependent of the price you will be paying for the fcon your interested in buying, I went down this route because I feel the f-con has a lot to offer (when you can use it) and can be purchased relatively cheap compared to other ecu's out there.

If you ring TDI and can get to speak to Sam Borgman he is an internationally renowned mapper and familiar with the HKS software and what will be required. He's as near an engineering genius as you will find outside of aerospace and F1, too with a hugely broad spectrum of knowledge.

:yeahthat: had my car on their dyno when doing some Syvecs testing
