TT Paul
I have hks adjustable street race coilovers never had these before and google an't helping I can see the spring is adjusted with a large c spanner, compact the spring lowers/stiffen ride ? and in the top of the strut I can see the nut if I tighten or loosen it what does this do I guess its for the damper hard/soft I don't want to mess it up but the rides abit hard for me thanks for your time/awnsers... Swampy442
The top of the strut in the engine bay? It could be damping adjustment, or it could be the nut securing the top mount. Pic would help.
Ric
C-spanner would adjust the height. The knob on the top would probably adjust damping hard/soft
spidermonkey
I thinks you can adjust the dampening with an Allen key that goes in the shaft.
Dnk
Turn the adjuster nut one way as far as it will go and then turn it fully back counting the clicks, you now know how many clicks of adjustment there is. You can now set both sides the same by turning them all the way in one direction clockwise or anti clock and see how it affects the ride and adjust accordingly If going fully clockwise makes it harder just rotate back each adjuster by the same amount of clicks and test again The Hipermax II has 30 damping positions Edited March 20, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)
Nic
Dampening adjustment is + clockwise/ - anticlockwise
Dnk
Dampening adjustment is + clockwise/ - anticlockwise + meaning stiffer - meaning softer i guess

WaLKeRR
Also, loosening off the spring will soften up the ride? (i have hsd i assume same design)
TT Paul
just the info i wanted thanks gents, that info will help that bit more so i can just go in with a better idea, they appear to be fully screwed inward = harder damping
TT Paul
Also, loosening off the spring will soften up the ride? (i have hsd i assume same design) true will also raise it
Swampy442
Also, loosening off the spring will soften up the ride? (i have hsd i assume same design) On HSDs it will because they have independent height adjustment and spring preload. Softening the spring on the HKS ones will lower the car as well. fastcar
Loosening the spring won't actually make your ride any softer, it will only effect how the car reacts to the road surface. So if you tighten the spring your car will become more reactive and responsive to the input you put into the controls of the car like steering, braking and accelerating, which is good on a silky smooth race track. But on the road you will need a looser spring pre-load so the car is less reactive and less twitchy on the road. I was you I would just start with slacking of the damper settings so the car become less harsh on the road. What sort of gap do you have between the tire and the arch? TT Paul
between the the arch/tyre around 1.5 inches front/rear
Whitesupra95
Does it not have separate height adjustment like hsd's Hsd's have adjustable spring preload by tightening the spring and loosening the spring and ride height is done by another collar near the base which you turn the whole base in order to lower/raise the car without compromising spring preload and dampening travel. fastcar
between the the arch/tyre around 1.5 inches front/rear at a guess then I would say the spring pre-load was somewhere near as im sure the HKS coilovers ride height and spring pre-load adjustment is in the same adjustment. try knocking down the dampening screw on top of the shock by a few clicks and see what happens, you should feel it become more of a comfy ride
