Sat Nav software help plz

Burna

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a second hand MIO 268 sat nav unit. It works great but the problem is the chap hadn't got the PC install cd that came with it. I've emailed MIO and phoned them but they still haven't got back to me.

It won't work with Microsofts activesync like my M500 (i-mate) and from what I have read on gps forums I need this cd to communicate with my PC, then I can access the MIO and install activesync etc... to make life easier.

Please if someone has a MIO and they can do my a backup copy of the communication install disc that would be great, or if anyone knows where it can be downloaded (Jake? :))

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

The CD's got Outlook 2002 and ActiveSync on it.

There are also some extras like MS Games, AvantGo etc.

I just installed ActiveSync 3.7.1 from the CD on the PC as the 168 came pre-installed (all except for TomTom 5 ;) )

Have you checked the MS PocketPC download site?

Just looked and found this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync38.mspx v3.7.1 is also there somewhere.

If you're still stuck, PM me your address.

I don't think that's got the right program I need Ivan :( My MIO 268 won't work with Activesync, it will only work with MioTransfer. Once I have accessed the MIO I can then install a program to allow me to use Active sync.

Ah well, looks like my CD's no good for you then. :(

But did you see this bit at the bottom of that page?

"So far it is not possible to connect the MIO to a PC via ActiveSync as you would do with other WindowsCE devices. This means that to install programs, you will have to copy (installation .cab or .exe executable) on an SD card before launching them via the File Explorer of the Mio"

Do you have an SD card and USB card reader for your PC? You may be able to install stuff that way.

:woot: Finally got it all sorted.

1. Unlocked the MIO 268 so it starts up on a windows screen with task bar and MP3 player

2. Installed an on screen keyboard

3. Added a 1GB SD card

4. Created a speed camera batch file for MIOMap with voice alerts using the speed camera database

5. Installed POIObserver to use the speed camera batch file with MIOMap

6. Installed TomTom 5

7. Added speed camera database to TomTom 5 with real voice alerts

Run out of ideas of what else to do with it now but I'm sure I'll think of something lol
