fruity_south
Hi all, Last night i started putting together a list of bits and pieces to get to start my TT conversion on my v8 engine. Its long overdue but i have been tied up with trying to sort out planning permission for my new workshop. One of the things i have been thinking about is adding a fuel cell, probably 20-30lt. i was just wondering how others have fitted theirs, if there are any legalities i need to consider etc. it doesn't make it onto track, but has been played with at Pod. I have no rear seats and the rear of the car has been boarded out to house the battery and a nitrous bottle which can be altered slightly to house the cell as well. I'm thinking cell one side of the wheel well and the nitrous bottle the other. thanks in advanced guys.
Chris Wilson
Why needlessly move a heavy fuel load to a higher position and raise the C of G of the car, make a oad of work, and spend a lot of dosh? Unless you know traction will improve in drag racing with a higher C of G I would say it's a backward move, Toyota did a great job of the fuel tank moulding and positioning. Lee P
As Chris said, no need. The stock fuel tank is a great design and fine where it is
Chris Wilson
My only doubt about my advice is that a dedicated drag race car *MAY* benefit from a higher rear C of G. It's not a form of racing I know much about though, but for street or track usage it is definitely undesirable. I can picture why a drag car might need a higher C of G, and if that's the car's sole purpose you might want to get more info.
fruity_south
Thanks Chris, I have built the car purely to show that the conversion could be done without huge exspense and could remember being laughed at when i first said i was doing it. Now theres more V8s popping up which is great to see. The car is being built to A, look great at shows, and B for a bit of drag action, but certainly in no competive level, just for fun, (im not looking at breaking records). As my battery is now in a better location for weight distribution i was thinking that a fuel cell would both save weight and give me better C of G, like you say it would be higher which i believe is what would be better suited to dragging. One of my mains reasons for doing it though is because i think they look just damn good! and see little need for such a big tank under the car for the miles it does. obviously theres people who are going to disagree but i do appriciate the input.
