dr_jekyll
Has anybody run a wastgate completely open with no sreamer pipe? Would there be any issue with this Edited March 15, 2014 by dr_jekyll (see edit history)
J_Supra_07
Would that not damage the wastgate? 9 time out ten flames are coming out of the end. If is just open the flames will go everywhere.
Chris Wilson
So long as the hot gasses don't impinge on anything critical go ahead whilst you can. Won't be long before none stock noise level exhausts are banned.
dr_jekyll
the wastegate will be pointing more or less straight at the floor.

MC_Bob
Just put a bit of pipe on it. I'd want as much heat away from the valve and diaphragm as possible.

J_Supra_07
the hot gas passes through regardless? Yes but take a look at the valve design. If the heat is released outside the valve, where the valve is bolted together the seal may melt. I'd put a small pipe on. Plus it my sound like a tractor if it dumps it straight out :-)
MC_Bob
Without a pipe I think you'll get the exhaust gases scattering willy nilly. Not straight out. Which is why I'd channel it with a bit of pipe.. However, I have seen people do as you want before, just doesn't seem right.
Wez
I have driven without a wastegate pipe, but only to a exhaust fitting place to have one made, I wouldnt advise it as a perm solution
