oil leaks -- any common issues

Hey

  1. Oil filter Relocation sandwich Plate area
  2. Steering Rack area

Last few months I noticed some weeping around the engine area;Since the car is parked up I got a better indication of were the oil is leaking from. Some of this may be run off from the same leak but I need to clean the engine and pinpoint if it is 3 leaks or just 1-2

Oil levels in Power steering, engine have not moved in months and power steering in years; my mechanic said the leak is so small not to worry about it but I would rather fix it.

I did notice the oil leak when I put in 5W40 millers in ( odd smudge on the ground), I had the Fuchs 10w50 Pro S in there previous

Oil filter Relocation sandwich Plate area

I have 5w40 Millers oil in here so may that is too thin and a contributing factor to the leak, I need to investigate and pin point the location first.

Steering Rack area

Anything prone to leak in this area, Seals known to go etc, I may not be from my car but worth asking so I know what to focus on

FWIW the oil system shouldn't leak regardless of how thick or thin the oil inside it is.

My PAS rack developed a leak on the return side. There is a fitting on the rack which is a banjor with a short stub pipe covered in plastic. The pipe had corroded under the plastic and was constantly weeping. When I replaced it I cut off the plastic, scrubbed the pipe with a wire brush and there was a hole about the diameter of one bristle on the brush.

I also once saw a weep from one end of the rack and even went as far as sourcing a 2nd hand rack whereupon it stopped and never started again!

maybe oil filter leaking

Oil filter is relocated, she is not leaking in that area , worse case I will just take the kit off it and put the oil filter back in as per OEM

I had the same fitting leak, it soaked the undertray material but didn't reach the floor so I was baffled as to why my PAS reserviour was emptying with no apparent leak :)

You should be able to tell if it's engine oil or PAS fluid by feel and smell of the leaked fluid.
