Changing Clutch - Little Help

Recommended Posts

So my clutch seems to be slipping in 4th so getting it changed. Car is an N/A 5 speed.

I have a replacement clutch and flywheel and the car is booked in but have a few questions. (I have done a search and it didn't reveal much)

1st off I have been quoted for 8 hours labour to change the clutch which comes to £400 at a local 'Performance' garage, is this about right?

2nd off what else should I replace while I am at it, I have read that its a good idea to change gearbox seals? Which ones and where should I get them from?

3rd off anything else to get done whilst I am at it?

Thanks everyone

:)

Hi Jesse,

No way, 8hrs is very excessive. We completed the bulk of my whole auto-manual conversion in 8hrs! - auto stuff off, clutch, flywheel, box and pedals in.

Maybe a good idea to replace the rear crank seal while your there, spigot bearing and as part of your clutch change, do the release bearing too mate

Thanks everyone, I did think 8hours sounded excessive so that's confirmed it. Yeah Alex if the first word starts with W and the second with P then it probably is! Is there anywhere you would recommend?! I have phoned a few places and most were around the same price!

Thought it would be mate, I would give you the number for the garage here that I use but I think that's abit for out for you though? He's located out here in Ellon, I personally know the guy and he usually gives good rates.

Gearbox oil replace, much easier with the box out.

Worth doing these bits at the same time, should be able to get it all from Toyota

Might be able to take it out to Ellon if its a good garage and reasonably priced then I don't mind driving out.

My mate owns a small garage, but he's usually very busy. He's doing a mk1 focus rs engine into a m6 fiesta conversion, he's also doing a yb mk1 escort at the moment too.

Thanks, I could always give him a call? Unless anyone has any other recommendations for somewhere in town that is good?
