JayJay1374
Collected a set of recaros today. From an import integra type r. Mint condition and local too! Just need to either fit them to the standard subframes, get some made or try and find a set forsale.
JayJay1374
Progress! The engine is in! What a nightmare. It really didn't want to go back on the mounts, after a lot of jiggling and repositioning it eventually went in. Mounts bolted up. Gearbox all bolted up and propshaft bolted up. JayJay1374
Tonight I got the exhaust bolted up, a/c and piwersteering pumps bolted on, aux belt on, loom back in and under the dash, fuel lines on. Not much left now
JayJay1374
I haven't updated this for a while...... After getting the engine in and everything pumbed up it wouldn't start. A visit from hodge diagnosed the valve timing being out. After hours of repeatedly taking shims out, swapping them round. Re measuring. Fitting new shims it all went back together and the compression was tested. And was all good. Fuel pump fuse back in. First turn of the key and she started straight up. Running better than ever. Last job was bleeding and adjusting the clutch pedal then she was back on the road. New steering wheel and snap off boss fitted. Recaros in the car mounted. Awesome seats. So comfy Also managed to find a mint manual gear surround and set of dash panels which I got painted up in White again. Since the rebuild I did 1000 miles running in period and all went well. Even attended a few shows and meets. Aswell as getting the private reg on. Edited July 14, 2014 by JayJay1374 (see edit history)

Krister
Any reason you didnt put aftermarket rods while you had the engine apart? The rods are the limiting factor on these engines and a set of Eagle rods are only around 350GBP and they can handle up to 1000hp.
JayJay1374
I couldn't afford rods at the time. I was bone skint whilst rebuilding the engine. In the future if I do go for more power I'd happily pull the engine out and strip it again as it was actually quite a nice job.

JayJay1374
I had a look down my unit last night and eventually fitted my new smoothed bumper with lip. Then when I started the car to leave I noticed oil leaking quite badly from the front crankshaft oil seal. Not happy. It's only lasted 2500 miles since the rebuild. Looks like I will be heading to toyota to order another one today. Gonna have to cancel the wheel alignment I had booked.
safcdixon
Looks loads better mate! No way on the crank seal Jonny you have some pretty crappy luck dude
JayJay1374
Tell me about it mate. It did weep a little after the rebuild. Then it stopped after about 300 miles. I assumed that it was just getting seated right. Last night it ran for about 5 mins and left a 20cm puddle. It was quickly dripping onto the arb then off. You most likely pushed the seal in too far, (Standard supra problem). Needs to be flush with the front face of the oil pump and no more or you'll block the oil drain just behind the seal. That, or you've scratched the sealing surface/it has an age related groove worn into it.

Will take a lot more care this time around. It's a new oil pump so there shouldn't be any marks on the seal surface but you never know. JayJay1374
Well what a weekend. Mega busy! Repainted my ukspec brake all round with new decals. No pictures. Went and picked up a 97tt auto in RSP! Bought with the intention of either breaking it or fixing it. Also fitted my new crankshaft oil seal. Also robbed the imaculate headlights out of the RSP. I need to get under it properly but the rear subframe is bent but I'm just worried it's bent the body mounts. The car crabs terribly!
