Following on from my thread in the members section titled "im back..." ive found this shiny box thing in my parts bin. Can anyone shed some light as to what it is? if memory serves me right i got it in a group buy a few millenia ago, but ive aged considerably since then and cant for the life of me remember what it is

I know it goes in the area between the front bumper and bulkhead but thats about it lol.

Also, ive tried opening it to see if theres a genie inside - but all that happened is i cut my fingers to shreds on the two sharp antennae type things.

Once someone identifies it i have a whole load of other questions such as do i need it, what does it do, how easy is it to fit etc etc :D

Thanks :)

It's an oil catch can :)

No

what does it do

Nothing*

how easy is it to fit

A costly pain involving pipes, fittings, and probably some cutting and welding of the cam covers.

*to clarify, nothing** if your engine doesn't have an underlying problem with excessive oil blow-by, otherwise it does do something, it covers up the problem until it worsens enough to manifest in other ways

**actually most installs make the PCV breather system stop working properly and cause problems by cocking up the vacuum/pressure lines, so I guess it does sort of do something.

Think i may keep it as a reminder of my ability to buy crap i dont need

I have an exhaust backbox in the shed I bought at Santapod one year while very drunk! I've had it for about 8 years now......
