FOSTA
I was just looking to finally purchase a dry cell battery, as I fitted my battery in my boot last year with intentions to replace it with a dry cell. Now when I have been driving it I've had the windows fully wound down for ventilation. My battery is a halfords advanced maintance free sealed battery, now I've just been reading up and came across quite a few posts saying that the new modern seald battery's are perfectly fine for the cabin/boot as these do not give off the harmful gasses that the old unsealed battery's used to give off on charge cycle! And apparently most of the new BMW's, the X3 being one of them have a sealed maintance free battery installed to the right ha d side if the boot without any vent tube as they are not needed nowadays. Is this correct and have I Been worrying about gassing myself for no reason!? Lol FOSTA.

Abz
My Dad's old 1995 Mercedes C Class had a battery in the boot & I don't remember it having anything special venting out any gasses. Hopefully someone can confirm? But I guess at least in them cars the boot is completely separate from the cabin.
Mugello
My brothers new BMW 1M sport has the battery in the boot. Im told the derv versions with start-stop tech run two batteries in the boot ! EDIT Looking at the above post, it reminds me of my dads old V6 sport mercedes (1998) battery also in boot. But as said above the boot is not the cabin also.
Guest Robert1981
Just bought a new battery for my e46 330 which again is located in the boot. The standard item came with a vent but the Lion replacement didn't and is just fine
Hassan
New dry cell or gel battries dont need to vent and you can place them upside down if you like and they will still be fine.

Yeah I know about the dry cell battery's as that's what I was going to get, I'm asking the question to find out if my maintanance free battery is safe and dosnt need venting as if it is safe there is no point of me spending £200 on another battery. Like i said "dry cell or gel battries dont need to vent" so 100% safe to use them in the front footwell if you like.
