Gretie22
Accelerated off the traffic lights the other day and the mil light lit up briefly, car acted normally. I've just done a diagnostics check and there's no stored codes. So any ideas what could of caused this?
Thorin
Does it happen when braking sharply too? Could be brake fluid slightly low when sloshing around.
Gretie22
Only happened the once. I'll go out and check the brake fluid now. Thanks
Thorin
Low fluid can trigger the light even if it's only very slightly below the level. Hopefully it's just that.
mattdavies
My brake fluid has to be between the min and max or above to stop the light coming on
Gretie22
Just checked it, its on max!
Guest Budz86
Maybe a brief misfire or traction warning?
Josh
Could have hit fuel cut briefly if you've not got a FCD fitted
Gretie22
Slip control light didn't come on. Brake fluid is due a change though looking a little darker than it should :/
Gretie22
No FCD fitted so could be that.
Guest Budz86
Did it stutter? Like it had hit the limiter

Josh
I hit fuel cut once in 2nd as the second turbo came on going up a hill on a cold day. I let off as soon as lights started coming on and I didn't feel the "jolt" you hear about, but maybe I let off in time.

Didn't let off, couldn't let the bmw past It only flashed briefly so sounds as if it could be a brake fluid thing, if the weather is good at the weekend I'll get my partner to change the brake fluid then take it out for a blast. Digsy
Check that when you turn the ignition key to the second position but BEFORE you crank that all the warning lights come on just in case you are getting a secondary warning light but the bulb is blown. IIRC it's not the MIL that illuminates when you have low brake fluid, anyway. It's the master warning triangle and the brake warning light. MIL usually indicates a problem with the engine, transmission or ECU but that should store a fault code.
