My sis made an insurance claim on her Beemer (v.light panel damage) does this mean her car is automatically classed as a 'CAT D' as she has claimed on insurance? What makes your car a cat D ? far Posted August 25, 2005 Author Share Posted August 25, 2005 CAT A = scrap only, no useable parts, probably burnt out CAT B = can be used as parts but chassis needs to be disposed of CAT C = Car completely unrepairable, insurer pays out CAT D = damaged to the exctent of uneconomical repair, insurer pays out CAT F = fire damaged un repairable. Is that correct? If so is this ebaY auction dodgey? I bought this BMW from my friend as damaged and had it repaired to a BMW standard. The damage was very light, to the offside front corner. The parts changed were the front bumper, one headlamp, one grill, one fog light, one indicator, one wing (although could have been repaired) and the small panel under the headlamp. The front bonnet was very lightly damaged (just under the grill) but was also replaced. No damage to chassis or any part under the hood. Conrad Posted August 25, 2005 Share Posted August 25, 2005 I'm pretty certain that if you're just claiming for some work for the car then it wont get put on the register. Only if the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the car will the car get 'written off' (put on the register). As this is not the case with your sis then it wont be on the register. She may however loose her no claims bonus and will have to declare to future insurers that she's made a claim in the past - thus making future insurance more expensive. Hope that helps.
