Shane
Hi Paul, So long as you have the exciter feed to the field coil connector and the feed to the battery you should be able to get it to charge if it's a good alternator. Here is an example of alternator wiring in it's simplest form: http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/uploads/769/DelcoSI2wiring.jpg And another: https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=TIafYOGo7ffeuM&tbnid=PfZUZX8Bld2CTM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.expeditionlandrover.info%2FDelco_Alternators.html&ei=BkT3UqP0Duii0QXr24GAAw&bvm=bv.60983673,d.ZGU&psig=AFQjCNHZkQzY1SAc-UmY5rLMr1fDwMs9qw&ust=1392022846408695 Although these will work fine and are very simple, i would personally always make sure the exciter feed is ignition switched too just to avoid any drain on the battery when not in use. ghostbuster
Well worth getting the alt tested. I've just been there and mine was breaking down as load increased due to rectifier probs. I got mine repaired by a specialist here in Devon (cheaper than replacement).
Chris Wilson
The usual causes of trouble in 2JZ alternators are oil ingress and / or worn out brushes and slip rings.
