Ian R
Sure someone said that last year.................... I did yep and had AC at 10-1 to win champions league but chuffed an English club won it. But lets face it hard group and no team has ever defended the title succesfully
Kopite
no team has ever defended the title succesfully European Cup Winners: 1976/77 - Liverpool F.C. 1977/78 - Liverpool F.C.
Faye Brother
Depends how pedantic you're feeling as no team has ever defended the Champions League successfully. The European Cup, of course, is a different matter.

Kopite
Past GLORIES and i know your going to mention AC Milan rolling over like my cat to have its belly rubbed but didnt you have to turn over Shrewsbury Ladies and Welsh Under 14's at win those older cups?? Yeah past glories fella, just pointing out that a team has defended the cup successfully. You're showin that you don't know much about footy now, just because the teams we beat then aren't as well known today doesn't mean they weren't bloody good! Borussia Moenchengladbach were good, Bruges were good, Madrid in 81 were good as were Roma in 84. For fucks sake, Preston use to be the top team in England, just because they're not that good anymore doesn't mean they weren't good at the time! no team has ever defended the Champions League successfully. The European Cup, of course, is a different matter. Totally agree - Champion's League is a lot easier than the old style European Cup was. Sure, you play more games, but you don't even have to win your own league to get in it and you can afford to lose a few games too. Liverpool lost 3 games in the Champion's League last season and still won the fucker! Plus with the teams in it these days, e.g. Everton!, you don't play class opposition like you used to. Let's face it, the only Italian team you'd play would be the Italian champions etc. A team that won the European Cup could claim to be the best team in Europe for that year, that's not the case now. You don't hear me sayin Liverpool are the best team in Europe because we're the European Champions etc. Same with Porto last year, they weren't the best team about. There's no way Liverpool (or Chelsea) are a better football team than Milan are. We managed to beat them using different qualities and by havin A LOT of luck, but who gives a shit. If you don't like the past glories thing (as you know Liverpool have got a much much more decorated past than any other English club) than have some of this! http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1940/champs7ee.jpg
Ian R
European Cup Winners: 1976/77 - Liverpool F.C. 1977/78 - Liverpool F.C. Yep correct but I think you will find I said CHAMPIONS LEAGUEnot the european cup
Kopite
Well, now you are bein petty. Yep, you said the Champion's League hasn't been retained, which is true. The European Cup was retained and was also harder to enter and harder to win. Even if a team retains the Champion's League, it's not as great an achievement IMO. Which moaning team do you support Ian - Man U or Chelski

Kopite
lol hope you're not tryin to say i'm not a true liverpool fan!!! Personally, the way the season's started, i think Chelsea will definately beat us at Stamford Bridge. Anfield, different matter, depends on the teams. If we get Owen in then we'll stand a much better chance
Ian R
lol hope you're not tryin to say i'm not a true liverpool fan!!! Nope I know your a true fan but you must admit when you win something it is amazing how many Fans ?? appear from the woodwork (just like Chelsea) and the same when the Wolves got promoted. Amazing how many Liverpool fans are round by me I ask them how many times they have been to Anfield normally its
Kopite
when you win something it is amazing how many Fans ?? appear from the woodwork (just like Chelsea) Funny you should say that because that's the exact reason me and my mates stopped goin to games. The season in 2001 was pure class, goin the games and havin a good old sing was the highlight of the week. Away games were far better than home games and it was the best time ever. The best was goin the FA Cup Semi against Wycombe at Villa Park on a Sunday afternoon, we were in the front row of the Liverpool section and it was pishin with rain, we got soaked but didnt care. My mate (a doctor) had a shirt on and it got soaked. We went back to Liverpool and had a 2 hour sleep because Barcelona tickets for the UEFA Semi were on sale the next mornin, we got down to start queuing from midnight. The doctor had fell asleep and only woke up when we turned up at his house, he didnt bother gettin changed because we were runnin late. After queuin for 9 and a half hours, we got our tickets BUT he had forgotten that he was meant to be givin a presentation that mornin and had no time to go and get chanded. His light blue shirt was worse for wear and stank of damp from bein soaked, don't think the people in charge of the presentation were too impressed After winnin a few cups in 2001, the day tripper fans started turnin up and, to be honest, they ruined it. I was at uni but was still goin back for matches but couldn't afford it really. Liverpool started doin "priority ticket schemes" etc as the demand for tickets suddenly went through the roof - made it much harder to get a ticket, still got quite a few years to wait for our season tickets! The worst was the Celtic game when, in the Kop, we were told to stop singin by a bloke behind us because his kid was tryin to have a nap That, with constantly bein told to sit down instead of standin (like everyone on the Kop does on matchday), completely put me off goin anymore, haven't been to Anfield since then and that was 2.5 years ago Things are gonna be even worse now that we've won the Champions League....... I hope Arsenal do well, as for Chelsea and Man U, won't be cheerin them on in Europe anymore after the comments we've had over the past few years!!
