Whats peoples thoughts on running a garrett gt4294r turbo on a standard block with 264 cams?

Reliabilty

will it produce a decent drivable road car?

Spool time etc

Im looking around 600 bhp and any advice would be greatly appreciated

4-5k will be on full boost

its an 850-900bhp turbo really with the right supporting mods.

If you want something driveable, I'd try maybe something around a GT35 or one of Paul Whiffins small turbos like a BW360 non billet you'll have boost by 3600rpm or a BL 360 Billet full boost by 3700rpm and a 500-700bhp capable turbo.

I ran a GT42-76 with a stock block and 264 cams. I made 778hp at the hubs at 1.5 bar. We could have went much further but the fuel pump maxed out. Was an awesome setup. Started pullbg really hard at 4500 rpm and was at full boost at 5500 rpm in 3rd gear.

Lag! Did I mention lag? Oh, and it'll be a laggy mess. Area under the torque curve is what makes an awesome road car engine. Ask anyone who drives a modern direct rail injection turbo diesel....Or has driven a current shape GTR. Big BHP figures do NOT equal awesome road performance. GT30 or GT35 is what makes a torque monster, IMHO. I have fairly big twin turbos on my Skyline, with fairly long duration, high lift cams. It's awesome on track, awful on the road. These huge BHP 2JZ-GTE engines are amusing to build, but not so amusing to drive day to day and usually seem to be broken or sold on pretty quickly. Build a coherent package, not a dyno sheet.
