AEM ECU Auto

Hi Guys,

I have not posted on here for a long time and been living in Spain, I have had Supras for 22 years and am out of touch with what has been going on.

I have a J Spec twin turbo Auto with 4 speed transmission. Back in 2004 I think I made it a single with a PHR 61 DBB turbo with all the associated add ons and fitted an AEM ECU at the time, it was tuned by Thor Racing down Coventry area and runs ok, however I have never been happy about the way the car moves away from a standing start, it seems to take off very sluggishly. The AEM fitted I guess as I don't know for sure was one of the first generation ones and I am wondering now over the years obviously there are newer versions out which run the Auto transmission much better and would it be a wise choice to fit a newer version and get it mapped by Ryan G or fit the Syvecs EMS.

Any information or advise would be welcome as I believe I was the first ever Supra with an Autobox to be mapped with an AEM.

Hi John, sounds like the lock up for the TC may be on all the time which can cause the issue.

Unfortunatly the AEM wasn't ideal for the supra auto box and caused a lot of failures.

If you want to keep the AEM then we can have a look at the settings for you and try and help a bit

If your looking to replace the ECU for something more modern then I would suggest the Syvecs.

Not only for its auto grearbox control but for everything else it can offer as well.

Let me know if you need any more details

Thanks for the information guys and I guess you mean TC ( Torque Convertor ) the way it pulls away from a standstill certainly would seem like that it is very sluggish until it gets going. I have hardly touched the car in 6 years and still getting aquainted with it again - if that is not the problem then I would quite possibly definitely go for the Syvecs and a remap as the car has probably not done only about 8k miles since rebuild in 2004.

Hallo John, blast from the past, any deflating palm trees to fall asleep against over in Spain? :D

A syvecs would see your autobox right and probably make the engine stronger as well. Bit of an outlay but Ryan's rep is worth the money.

If you come back to the UK can I have a go in your Aston :D

If its the AEM series 2 you are talking about there is a hardware update which AEM released last year for them. You would have to send your ecu to AEM in the states and they will update it which allows it to run auto supras a lot better. The mod is free.
