1jz vvti swap help needed

I've been searching around for an r154 gearbox for a while and it seems my luck was in as i found someone with an r154 and its attached to a 1jz vvti out of a chaser.

I was originally only looking to do a manual swap on my NA auto but he only wants £1500 for the engine and gearbox and thats too good to pass up.

 

I've already done some research and i know i'll have to swap my sump and engine mounts over but apart from that info is thin on the ground.

 

Has anyone who's already done this got any advice ?

 

my main concern is the wiring but i've heard of people using the 2jz loom and ecu to run is, is this an option ?

You are doing a Manual conversion on your N/A . . . so were you looking for an R154 (rather than a W58) because you were planning to fit a turbo?

 

So is this engine a 1JZ-GTE? But I think the Chaser version just has a single turbo . . .

 

Personally I'd stick with the engine's own ECU and loom, as a 2JZ-GTE is quite different in terms of controlling the fuelling etc

I've just replaced the 7M-GE in my Mk3 Supra with a 2GZ-GE . . . it took me ages to suss out all the wiring (which I did in advance, and then just took two days to swap the engine and get it running!)

 

You probably know that a few late model (JDM) Mk3s used the 1JZ-GTE engine . . . I found from talking to people that most of the ancillaries and a lot of it's wiring is very similar to the 2JZ, so it shouldn't be too hard.

 

I believe the 1JZ uses an AFM in the intake, so you need the correct one to go with it (hopefully you have that with the engine)

 

The only issue is that most 1JZs use a stupid hydrofan system that is complicated and unreliable . . . . but I believe you can just fit a 2JZ water pump and viscous fan, to make it like a 2JZ.

I think it's only the early TT cars - JZX81 and JZA70 (and the 2JZ-GTE in the JZS147) - that have the hydraulic fan. Mr T. seems to have realized that it was a solution looking for a problem and the later TTs have a viscous-coupled fan, and AFAIK all the VVTi JZs have electric fans.

 

I'd love a VVTi 1JZ. Same claimed power as the twin turbo, but max torque is greater and arrives at 2800 rpm rather than 4800 rpm.
