Tricky-Ricky
Yes respray, the current finish needs to be taken at least back to the base colour as the clear has lost adhesion either due to wrong application or age, heat and UV. Tricky-Ricky
I'm afraid there is nothing that will stop it peeling further, don't worry it wont rust, its just a layer of lacquer that lifting.
scott87
A bit of hairspray applied with a paintbrush can help. It doesnt look pretty but 'can' stop the peel for the time being.

Tricky-Ricky
Isn't hair spray water soluble?
scott87
Isn't hair spray water soluble? It is yer, you need to apply it periodically. But if you spray it and get it to that tacky stage it is more durable. Stopped the peel on my door on my mr2 for the 3 weeks I was waiting for my respray. Not a permanent solution by any means! Guest chazr_1
So how is best to apply the hair spray?
scott87
So how is best to apply the hair spray? I sprayed it into a plastic cup until it went a bit 'gunky' then applied a dab around the edges of the peel using a small paint brush. Like i said though, its not permanent and isn't a pretty fix, but it held mine off until i got the door sprayed....
Graham1984
You could just get a cheap lacquer pen and use that temporarily.
Tyson
There going to have to take it all off anyway so what does it matter ?
Pig
As already said the only proper fix is a respray to the panel. Dabbing some lacquer around the edge of the peeling lacquer is a good idea - It won't look pretty but it will slow the process and will not affect the cost of the future panel respray. Dnk
Flat it back to where its not peeling and get some spray lacquer from halfords then when thats dry flat it back with some fine wet & dry or leave it and just get a paint/body shop to sort it properly
Guest chazr_1
Thanks. I think I go have a look at both the lacquer pen and spray. Its only a very small patch so I will see. Thank you
Digsy
I had this on both front wings and my bonnet. Turns out that when JIC went round the car after importing it and fixed the stone chips at my request, instead of fixing each chip the actually gave the whole front end a pretty cheap and nasty blow over which looked great but only lasted a few years. I found it was far more cost effective to replace the bonnet and wings with good condition second hand parts bought on here than it would have been to get a respray done.
