FOSTA
Hey guys, am I right in thinking my block face needs re-faced/ skimmed? Basically it's all stright and true apart from one small patch around where the water gallery is on number #6 cylinder. The maximum allowance for warpage/ unevenness is 0.07mm (0.0028in.) Now it looks like it will seal perfectly around the cylinder but It looks as if the old gasket has pitted into the block ever so slightly aroung the water gallery So has a low spot, I can fit a 0.08mm feller gauge under the stright edge there witch is over the warpage allowance but if I pull the stright edge slightly in front on it ( closer to the out side of the engine) it's fine and if I pull the straight edge slightly back ( towards the cylinder ) it's also fine. What do you's think, for the sake of a small cost should I just get it re-faced or am I being Anal here? Here are some picture to show you: This shows the 0.06mm fitting under but the 0.08mm also fits under.
Dnk
I would if it was mine as i'm pretty anal about stuff like this and seeing as it's stripped for a full rebuild Edited February 2, 2014 by Dnk (see edit history)
Pulley
Skimm it mate, not worth the hassle if your going for 600+ Bhp You'll kick yourself if it develops problems after its all built up
GMan
Skimm it mate, not worth the hassle if your going for 600+ Bhp You'll kick yourself if it develops problems after its all built up +1 It might be fine as its only a water gallery at .9 bar of pressure and won't affect cylinder sealing BUT if the hg doesn't expand to fill it and water gets out on the sealing surface it will begin to corrode the gasket. I think I was just being impatient and wanting to get the new bearings in along with the crank. Like said I will get it done along with the head. TBDevelopments
I always do head and block. It'll make sure its perfect. Even if its just kissing the surface to remove negligible material it'll give a perfect surface prep as well
