Restrictor ring location

Just wondered where abouts in the exhaust this is usually mounted. Removing mine over the weekend and not sure sure how obvious it will be to see it. I'm double decat btw :)

Just leave it out, you'll love the increase in power! ;)

Exactly what I'm doing matey! Syvecs is paid to worry about rubbish like waste gate control! Lol

Well this took all of about 5 mins to do! Two 17mm bolts and that was it!

Much nicer sound now and she can breathe properly too! Hit 1.35 today in 4th easily but before she struggled with 1.1! Might get Ryan to tweak some settings on Tues to keep it from overboosting too often....

Yeah they make a massive difference but you won't have any boost control now mate, the stock wastegate is too small to be able to control the boost without the ring in, I've just ordered one from Whifbitz to put back in to keep the turbos from destroying themselves :(

Good call, with the luck you've had the last thing you need is for the tubbies to dump their guts into your new block!

Hoping the syvecs can look after it for me but if not I'll either enlarge the one I just removed, or get an aftermarket WG if possible. Will let Ryan decide which is best. May go aftermarket as it can be used for a single setup later if I wanted, depending on blower size :sly:

Unfortunately the stock turbos use internal wastegates so an aftermarket one won't fit without serious modification.... Its a shame, because they respond so well without the restrictor ring in, in 5th at 3100rpm I make 1 bar of boost :D

My knowledge of turbos and wastegates aren't extensive by any means but theoretically would it not be possible to port the wastegate so that its bigger then the gate itself effectively stopping a complete closure as the hole would be bigger then the gate allowing you to run with out a RR ?

Oh yeah, I remember reading that somewhere. Bummer! Will probably just get this one opened up a bit then. Driving up to SRR tomorrow so will give me a chance to see how it feels over a longer run and let Ryan decide if the Syvecs alone can handle it :)

That may be a option but not sure having the WG 'open' permanently would do any favours for performance. It would at the very worst slow down spool time and as Adam says, them being internal means it's may not be feasible
