rider
My driver seat belt doesn't retract unless it is encouraged to do so. It still functions fine. I'm reluctant to change out for a new one as they have date tags that can be used to corroborate the year of vehicle manufacture. So does anyone know how to get it running freely again. A simple fix like squirt ptfe here? Or is it a replacement only.
supra joe
Replace it, you can't replace your life.

rider
Go on, shock me how much for a new one? The belt still functions, locks as it should. Just hangs out the door when taken off which is annoying me.
SilentAgro
how much for a new one? Mine still locks when you pull it hard, like it's supposed to in an accident, but. It doesn't retract very well when I undo it

Havard
They are all getting a bit slow to retract from the ones I have seen. I got a replacement from a 97 car so the date thing didn't affect me. These cars are getting old so I would be reluctant to accept that a car was dodgy just because the belts are from a different age of car. H. trebor69
I remember reading a post on here a while ago about taking it apart and winding the mechanism back to give it more tension

Camry5Sgte
These belts have two retraction modes, when you unbuckle there is slightly more tension to retract. There is a solenoid that controls these two modes on the retractor itself. A short term fix to the sag you have when the belt is buckled is to remove the electrical connector on that solenoid. The belt will be tighter against your body than normal but it's better than being loose. Long term, replace them and keep twists out of them upon retraction. mattdavies
In the VAG scene is was due to fluff build up so the best thing was to pull it out completely and Hoover it, worth a try ?

Iky
Best is to replace with a new one. The plastic spindle bit that the spring winds around broke in mine. Facelift one is different to the early one as I found out. Both fit each other but early model one was built more solid and physically bigger than the facelift one. Probably due to weight saving. But as I said, if you're buying new either is good.
