Ebay delimiter chip question

Recommended Posts

Guys, just fitted one of those delimiter chips from 'import perfomance centre' guy. They're 41.95 if that helps you identify which ones i'm talking about.

These are them:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CELICA-SUPRA-MR2-SPEEDO-CONVERTER-DELIMITER-CHIP_W0QQitemZ4570909719QQcategoryZ10428QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Anyway, i already had my car converted by the place i bought it from, so it read mph not kmh on the original speedo head, but it was still limited to 112mph. Hence why i bought this chip as the guy said it would delimit ALL Supras!

Just been out to test it, and its still limited! :help:

Took old chip out, and replaced it with his, and followed all instructions, but.... i didn't bother with the extension to the odometer, as it has always read km's since i got the car, so figured i'd leave it in km till i can get it corrected, then i'll worry about it then. So, my question is, if i wire up the whole job lot as directed, will it then delimit my infernal 112 cut out, or has the odo got nothing to do with it?

Has anyone bought/fitted one of these? HELP Guys, i wanna go faster!

I bet you're wishing you had spent the extra and bought a Thor one now. I made the same mistake once.

The Odo has nothing to do with it. Mine isn't wired to the Odo either but it's delimited OK (or limited to 180mph, who knows?)

Are you sure it's fitted correctly? Which ECU wires did you cut and/or tap into?

And why is this in the FAQ section?

ok, from instructions:

From chip:

Red wire to screw marhed IG+

Black wire to screw marked G

Green wire to screw marked SI

(All directly behing speedo clock)

follow track from SI to loom connector and identify corresponding wire. (Blue and Red one) on Blue plug. Cut at connector and insulate, then take Yellow wire from chip, and connect to loom to aforementioned Blue and Red wire leading back into loom.

Hey presto. Speedo still reads miles as before, BUT still limited, after countless assurances from ebay guy, it wouldn't be! :complain:

Don't know about your delimiter, but I know the Thor one supplies a clamped signal direct to the ECU, not the odometer. If I understand correctly, the Thor delimiter's output signal rises until it gets near to 112mph, then stops rising, even if you carry on accelerating. The ECU is fooled into thinking you're doing just under 112mph.

Probably not much help. My advice would be to buy the Thor unit like Jake says.

It works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has something to do with the odometer, cos thats the only thing i did. Added the wiring to the odo as per the instuctions, and hey presto, no more 112 restriction! BTW, it WAS a pink wire!

Well chuffed! Like a new world has opened up to me! Above 112 that is! :sly:

Oh, this thread was the one you meant in the PM :donkey: soz.

Anyway - the pink wire comes out of the odo and off to various subsystems (PAS, Autobox, etc) and off to the good old ECU itself. Told ya you needed to hack one of those around ;)

No worries! Just happy that its worked! Pink wire info was the bit that helped TBH! I didn't think that the odo would have any relevance to the speed limiter, but it was the only pink wire involved in the whole instructions! Go figure? But hey, it works, and it saved me 80 quid by checking it in the first place! Phew! :read:

V happy now! No more getting passed at 114 by various skodas, mini coopers etc! :sly:

And, another reason to love my car!
