Guest fernandofan08
Hi everyone, I'm Andrew. Im 23 and a HGV driver. Im coming up to selling my RX8 in the next few months and I have been contemplating what car to purchase. Initially, I was thinking of a Nissan 350z or a Subaru Impreza STI but, abit unsure about the 350z and to be frank, Chavaru Impreza's are pretty much at ever corner you turn to. I then looked at an RX7, test drove one and I just didnt click with it, along with not wanting even more rotary paranoia I had with the RX8. Then, out of the corner of my eye I noticed an advert for a Supra at £4000 to which raised my eyebrows and it led me here. My budget will be around £7000 which appears to get you a decent car. I know that budget wouldd get you an Automatic, and the manual's are much more expensive but I can live with an automatic, it wouldn't phase me. I did read that you can convert the Supra to a flappy paddle though im not sure if that was just bull. Im not going to be after huge power or anything. I wont be into obscene bodykits or things like that. I would deffinitely start with the interior IE reupholster in some custom leather, modernise the dashboard, new carpet and then move onto some performance bits and modifications. For those who are interested, here is my RX8. Only 100 ever made in Phantom Blue. The rarest limited edition colour you can get; Anyway, any advice you guys could give me regarding my budget, what I could expect to get for that sort of money and so forth would be greatly appreciated. A member of my local car club owns an Auto supra in white with lots of pinky/purple work under the hood. I believe he is on here.
Gaz6002
Welcome You'll get a nice RELIABLE twin turbo automatic for that money, and the way those drive will change your life
Guest fernandofan08
lol! Thanks for the welcome! Funny you mention reliability. RX8 has had an engine rebuild, coil and lead upgrade, two sets of spark blugs, 3 batteries, had to replace my exhaust because it was knackered so bought a performance one at £400 ontop of £800 tyres and a £500 aerokit. Couldve got a proper car for that lmao!
tony tt
Welcome Andrew. For that budget you will get a really clean TT auto mate. There is a few lovely cars in the classifieds section. The flappy paddles are available for the car yes. I think there about £600 and linked to the Syvecs ecu if you upgrade to it. Good luck with the search. I always say rotary engines are like communism. They work well on paper. Not so much in real life.

Guest fernandofan08
lol! It was a.... younglife crisis car? I split up with my ex girlfriend back in 2012 and I had a Citroen C4 as I was planning to settle down, so I went and bought an RX8. Only had it 3 months before a garage killed my engine. SORN for 7 months after that. They have a beautiful interior and the Rotary sounds wonderful, but there's just no oomph, and its £475 a year for road tax. Sod that! Been an experience, and not many 22 year olds can turn round and say they had an RX8! I will certainly look into the flappy paddles and the Syvecs when I own the car, I will miss a manual and how engaging it can be, my friend has a bought a brand new GT86 (I know.....) in automatic with the flappy paddles and he loves taking it round the track and not having to use a clutch but still have the interaction of up and downshifting (again, in a GT86, I know!) mike33
I had an rx8 for 8 months then sold it! Great design! Engine was a nightmare! I have a supra now and its like a drug! You get addictive...
j_jza80
Welcome fernandofan08 If you raise your budget just a little, you should be able to buy a facelift VVTi tiptronic car, which is an even better version of the TT auto No offence bud but those RX8's are bloody terrible things. Glad you have seen the light They aren't terrible things. They're great cars, with a great engine that is let down by shocking reliability and fuel economy. Great cars to drive though, and they come loaded with tech.

Guest fernandofan08
Yeah, they come with so much tech. Heated leather seats, electric drivers, 9 speaker bose system with a 6cd changer, xenons, multi link suspension and an LSD all at £3k if you play your cards right! Problem is fuel economy. I get 35-40 miles out of a quarter of a tank. Are supra's recommended 99ron?
tony tt
I'd say 99ron is the preferred fuel for a TT bud.
Guest fernandofan08
What i use in the RX8 then. Luckily I have a shell garage and a Tesco with Momentum about 2 miles away from my door step! Oh, are there any specialists or recommended garages to take the Supra?

Guest fernandofan08
Ill miss balancing the clutch on hills with revs (which is TERRIBLE but im addicted to doing it. Such a bad habit!) but to be honest aside from abit of heel-toe which I can no longer do comfortably because I torn all my ligaments in my ankle last year, theres not much in it between the two. My Trucks are all automatic or semi auto without clutch. I find it allows you to focus on the actual driving if you have a responsive box

Guest fernandofan08
Scania. Shakes horrid too. We have semi autos with a clutch aswell. Utter nightmare. Got a few MAN trucks which are much better interior wise, just the reverse gearbox. Either too fast or too slow! New year and new car. What car events do you guys go to? You can pick them up for less than £1k I drove a couple of RX8's, they feel out of breath, need more Oomph and the engine is horrendous. I do love the interior however and also LOVE the seating arrangements. Tempted to buy one and chuck a V8 in it! Good choice on the auto box, and this is coming from someone who has a 6 speed. The auto's are quicker too, the gear change is rapid! An ultra smooth around town. Keep an eye on the classifieds section, they generally pop up from time to time.
