jackso11
Got my engine out and gearbox out too, gearbox off the engine and am looking at the torque converter....how do I remove it? Do I need a special tool? Edited January 15, 2014 by jackso11 (see edit history)
mellonman
i take it that the converter is still on the engine then? if so there is an insection panel to get to the bolts (iirc there are 6) and you will probably need to hold the crank with a braker bar to stop it spinning to realasde the bolts at the converter
jackso11
I win't need to hold the crank....its seized, thats why I have the engine out Whereabouts in the insection panel?
LOGIE
Its a small rubber rectangle shape at the bottom of the sump where it meets the bellhousing
LOGIE
You should NEVER remove the autobox and leave the torque converter unsupported on the flexiplate. Ideally remove the 6 bolts that secure the torque converter to the flexi befote removing the autobox ie the torque converter should come out still in the autobox
ashbuster
whats the reason for that? and is it a problem if someone did? it was a pain in the arse when i did mine i had to take the box off then take it off, it was on tight
GMan
if the engine is siezed i don't know if you can get the converter off as you have to rotate it to get to the bolts from the inspection plate
