Havard
Very strange. Mine starts without pressure on brake pedal Mine too. Never heard of that before, especially on a car of this age.
Chris Wilson
The wife's old Nissan Stagea won't start without the brake pedal being depressed, nor will her Jeep Cherokee, both are elderly. But I have never seen a MKIV that uses the brake pedal switch or brake line pressure as a start inhibitor. Just find which contacts on the auto box switch are closed in P and N and connect into the loom at the appropriate, or a convenient point. Swampy442
Im pretty sure thats a US feature? Like the clutch pedal start switch? Mr Wilson, Im going to check the neutral start switch set up first, then swap that for the one from the original box. Then maybe cry and go manual lol. Chris Wilson
David Payne should have the pin outs for the gearbox switch. He has played about with the electronics of the auto boxes. Then you just need to find which loom wire should be connected to the starter solenoid spade terminal (by the gearbox switch) and make sure that's where it ends up. Toyota are FAIRLY good at continuing colour codes on cables from source to destination, which should help a bit. If you think you have the right wire in the chassis loom it will go high (12V +) when you turn the key to the engine cranking position. The two terminals on the gearbox switch will go from not connected together in R, D or other forward gears, to connected together when in P or N. Hope that helps a bit. Have you go the schematic for the Aristo loom?
Swampy442
Problem solved Checked the set up of the neutral start switch, changed the bush in the gear lever/shift rod because there was a bit of play in it and reseated a couple of plugs next to the ECU, turns over a treat now, thanks for all your suggestions. Ian C
Just for info, the autobox on the Supra has a shift lock system that does rely on the brake pedal being pressed, but it's to get the stick out of Park. It WILL start without your foot on the brake, but it WONT leave Park.
Swampy442
Same as the Aristo and Soarer mate, theres a small solenoid thats activated when you press the brake pedal.
