Need advice, car won't turn over

The wife's old Nissan Stagea won't start without the brake pedal being depressed, nor will her Jeep Cherokee, both are elderly. But I have never seen a MKIV that uses the brake pedal switch or brake line pressure as a start inhibitor.

Just find which contacts on the auto box switch are closed in P and N and connect into the loom at the appropriate, or a convenient point.

David Payne should have the pin outs for the gearbox switch. He has played about with the electronics of the auto boxes. Then you just need to find which loom wire should be connected to the starter solenoid spade terminal (by the gearbox switch) and make sure that's where it ends up. Toyota are FAIRLY good at continuing colour codes on cables from source to destination, which should help a bit. If you think you have the right wire in the chassis loom it will go high (12V +) when you turn the key to the engine cranking position. The two terminals on the gearbox switch will go from not connected together in R, D or other forward gears, to connected together when in P or N. Hope that helps a bit. Have you go the schematic for the Aristo loom?
