Welding a crank sprocket

Has anybody done this to there own sprocket? When I strip my engine down to fit my billet cam belt tensioner bracket I was wondering weather to do this to mine! Is it just as simple as welding the star shaped piece to the sprocket or does it need to be fixed in a very precise position? I've put a picture below for what I'm on about. :)

Thanks

There is a correct position but the star fits into a cutout as you can see in the picture, also a cutout for the woodruff key so you can`t get it wrong.

Thanks, now that you've pointed it out I can see the bit your on about opposite where the woodruff key goes that the star locates into. :)

So long as the trigger wheel is not already lose on the belt sprocket, just TIG it on. Search an old post of mine, you MUST ensure no weld can stop it seating fully. I can TIG your wheel for a tenner....

Thanks Chris I should be ok now but if not will give you a shout.
