Buying na - tt supra

In the past I've always been wary about buying conversions. The na to tt seems popular and the one I've seen (an aerotop) has been carried out by extreme performance.

Are these conversions a safe buy if I find a good one? or should I wait out for a decent tt in my price range - that probly won't be an aerotop tho lol

There are two issues, one has the conversion been done by someone who actually knows what they are doing ? Two is insurance, depending on your age alot of mainstream insurers will either blatantly refuse to insure it or give you such an eye watering premium you know they are politely telling to go away.

My NA-TT was done at Extreme Performance, and has been fine for years.

If you can find one with a 6 speed box though, or an R154 box, it would be MUCH better, than a W58 5 speed box.

Also, an NA-TT will use more fuel than a genuine TT due to the diff ratio, unless a TT diff has been fitted in place of the NA diff.

It's the insurance that bothers me on these. I was going to get a conversion done on an NA aerotop I had years back and ended up paying less insurance for a BPU+ aerotop TT that I replaced it with that was double the value of my NA than I was being quoted just to stick a TT engine in the car I had. This is ridiculous as the two cars can be pretty much identical other than the factory dropped a different lump in (spec dependent).

I know the car you are talking about as I almost bought that when it was on ebay yonks back in a moment of "surely my wife won't divorce me" madness lol. That has to be over 18 months ago now and the car has been going through more upgrades from following the owners posts on here. That says to me miles more than any ten minute test drive ever would. The conversion is obviously OK or the owner wouldn't keep spending money on upgrades but would be spending all of their money on repairs and bleating like a bitch about bad garages etc.

Car looks like a goodun, the owner looks like an enthusiast, and it isn't that far away from you to go get a drive. If you do buy it his finances may thank you as it's only a matter of time before he spends a lot of thousands on it for that 6 speed :)

Conversion wise, Keron (Extreme Performance) is highly rated, I wouldn't be worried about buying a conversion he had done

Insurance wasn't a problem for me

LWIB do mine and my Premium is just over £300 for all Mods declared (Spec here), 5k miles, wife as named driver, European cover (Dragonball) and guaranteed value of £10k

It's becoming very popular to do the conversion, it probably rules out the mainstream Insurers, but to be honest most are really expensive for Imports compared to the specialists anyway
