tenside
Hi Guys This weekend I decatted my exhaust and put in a downpipe. After decatting I noticed that the sensor that fits in the cat wasn't re-installed by the xhaust shop. What sensor is this? Should I re-install it or leave it uninstalled? Thanks

Thanks I'm sure it's the cat temp sensor, when decating, I think most people just cable tie it up somewhere, not sure about unplugging it from the loom as it may bring the engine management light on but like I said, not sure on that bit. The search button at the top is so helpful bud. Hope this helps Edited December 23, 2013 by mull1986 (see edit history)

fastcar
If it's a J-spec you can just chop it off and insulat the ends properly and tuck it back into the car through the gromit. It's a heat temp sencor for the cat it won't bring the engine management light on. I chop mine off and removed the wire from the ECU loom. FOSTA
I just unplugged mine when I fitted my turbo kit and no light came on. just trace the wire up into the cabin. the plug is down by your left leg in the drivers footwell under the carpet
fastcar
Why only a jspec? Just wondering by the way? As I'm not sure if the UK-spec has a second O2 sensor on the cat or not. As I only have ever owned a J-spec I wouldn't like to say do it then be wrong:)
Chris Wilson
The overheat sensor is in case someone puts leaded fuel in by mistake, which sets the catalyst into hyperdrive. Japan had unleaded fuel on sale alongside leaded fr later than the UK and the US, I believe, so it was a real danger in that marketplace. UK / US cars have two Lambda sensors, one upstream of the cats, one downstream. It makes for a potentially cleaner exhaust, (and more junk to go wrong). They do not have the over heat sensor.
