DaveRex
I can see your point but you obviously think like me, you want to stay in the nice house etc. You view buying a house and having to take a step down because you wouldn't afford as nice a place. By logic though the person who owns the house you rent is better off in the long run, if you see where I'm coming from. Short Term, your better off renting, nicer house, more disposable income, less risk from household disasters like unepxected mantanence etc Long Term, better off owning your own property, money to be made from value increase, long term investment etc. My point is that after a lot of thought I have decided that the property owner is better off in the end if he makes wise investments
how_supra
I worked out much I paid in rent as well over the past two years and its something close to £11k which is a lot. This prompted me initially to go to the bank about a mortgage, but the situation to buy a house for me personally is just not feasible, and i find that I'm stuck in this lose, lose situation. RedM
Wise investments, a fair amount of luck and a helpful tail-wind and all would be well. In the meantime, I'll just keep doing good deeds for the old folk in the viallge and hope they leave us some cash or a nice house one day. LOL. how_supra
I know that, but how frustrating is it for first time buyers. Its near on impossible. I mean I could settle for a basic studio flat, but they are so hard to sell on as well. It doesn't make sense. I know I'm just ranting at the minute, and the world isn't fair, yar de yar de yar de. Did anyone see that location program on channel 4 last night, with the flat up for 575k, and they offered 500k and it got accepted? I don't get it? RedM
Is that the show with that posh lass? My other half hates her. It was all because she said that non-homeowners have a duty to get on the property ladder so that everyone else can move upwards into nicer homes. She still froths at the mouth whenever sloaney girl appears on t'magic box.
Oddball
I've been renting for about 5 years now and my rent hasn't gone up much. I pay £100 per week now on a 3 bed town house with a drive and nice gardens, in Manchester. If I went to buy this house would be around £140,000 with the mortgage around double what I pay for rent. I'd like to start on the property ladder, but it's way too expensive. :thumbdown

Oddball
Thats why i'm staying with renting the house.
how_supra
What Dave means is that £400 in our area would secure you a nice double room in a houseshare with 16 other people.

Supragal
There was nothing in Woking even nearly suitable for £200k!! SO moved and not have a 45min commute but only spent £180k and got really quite a nice place. No double garage though
