LOGIE
There is a thread covering this but I cannot find it. In short before I fit my A02B diff how can I tell that it actually is a LSD? I know there are no exterior markings etc but there is a way of telling by rotating the prop yoke then the driveshaft flanges should rotate in......(Whatever direction?) Cheers
Swampy442
The only way to be 100% sure is to physically check the internals. As Im sure you're going to change the diff oil before you fit it (best practice and all that) just shine a light in the drain plug hole and look at the diff, should look like this
LOGIE
Thanks Swampy, I thought there was a way of checking by rotating the prop yoke but I must be wrong. Yep I'll be changing oil and even got new drain and filler plug gaskets/seals (just little rings) Im not sure how much I'll see by looking in that small hole though. Do you have a pics of a NON lsd? Might make it easier to compare. Cheers.
Swampy442
You'll certainly be able to see the centre of the dif and discern whether its open or not, Ive used that method myself. Swampy442
Im guessing he's bought it off another car to fit to his, so the VIN plate won't be to hand.

james_cbr
ah been thinking about this so an NA-TT requires a A01B diff change to A02B ?
SPG
ah been thinking about this so an NA-TT requires a A01B diff change to A02B ? James, as you have the facelift SZ-R, you will have a V161 mated to a A02B diff already

LOGIE
unfortunately not im on a w58 and a01a In that case you'd be better off with a A02A (open diff) or a A02B (LSD) you can still use your A01A. If your staying with the W58 and fitting a 02 diff I think youll need to change the yoke from your 01A onto the 02(A/B).

LOGIE
well even when peering through the filler and drain plugs there is no way of telling. Sod it.
James
unfortunately not im on a w58 and a01a To mate the A02A or A02B to a W58 box, you need to change the prop flange as they are not a straight swap. You could fit an A01B 4.083:1 LSD (same ratio as your open A01A) as a straight swap though.

I have the correct prop flanges and donuts etc. Everything is sorted I was just wondering if there was a way of telling a lsd from an open diff without opening it up. I removed a A01B diff to fit a A02B EDIT apologies James you weren't talking to me I see.
