Kaan W
Hi all, As my car is going in for a respray I wanted all the windows removed. I was given a price from Autoglass for £428 inc vat and this includes the removal of the front, rear, and rear quarter glass. Also if anything breaks they are not liable and I would have to pay to replace it. Does this sound about right, should I risk doing it myself and use the money to get new glass if something breaks? What do you guys recommend?
j_jza80
That sounds very expensive. I know it's a PITA of a job, but I'm sure a specialist wouldn't charge anywhere near as much. I'd be tempted to try it myself, and get them professionally refitted. What colour are you going?
Lbm
So would you drive the car to the bodyshop with no windscreen then?
jimojameso
Why the respray mate? I loved the colour of your car!
Dnk
Front and rear screens are easy to get in and out, my local window guy quoted me £100 cash to take them both out and refit when required. The quarter glass is a bit more involved but not that hard. £428 sounds a tad dear to me
thetrashcanman
Why the respray mate? I loved the colour of your car! I think it's the same colour pretty much if I remember dude, And Kann have you asked the place that's spraying it for you? As that does sound awfully expensive and would be better for everyone if the spray/body shop did if they can do it obviously

I might give it a go myself and hope they dont break, then get a specialist to refit with the new seals I have. I'm either going with Grigio Silverstone or black. So would you drive the car to the bodyshop with no windscreen then? Trailer, its basically a bare shell Why the respray mate? I loved the colour of your car! Just fancy a change mate, I love the colour too but black will look awesome Front and rear screens are easy to get in and out, my local window guy quoted me £100 cash to take them both out and refit when required. Also this includes re fitting at a later date. Will give it a go with the front and rear first then try the quarter glass.

They have more experience than me though and if is alot cheaper then I'll get them to do it.

I'd have thought £200 to take the lot out and refit is about right
Jord
If you're liable for breaks that's gonna be a massive pain if they break anything. Sounds quite expensive really.

Very hard the break the quarter glass and a front screen is only around £120, no idea on rear screen and i struggle to see how you'd break it other than dropping it but if the worst occurs you can get a whole tailgate for under £
jim
I thought the quarters were notorious for busting when trying to remove them?

Yeah if it's cheaper then I would go with them mate, and black would look the nuts on your car Only thing I dont like with black is the trial rear looks wierd if the bottom was also black as it is. I could do the existing black parts satin including the wheels that would look quite good, the only other thing looking at black cars it hides alot of the detail and ive put alot of work into this shell. markssupra
I was quoted around the same £500 from a few different companies to remove and replace. My windscreen cracked as soon as the blade went in but got a replacement screen from Keron for £100, so not too bad. I really took my time removing the rear screen and quarters, I used a soapy water mist spray as well to lube the blade while using a long bladed craft knife, the type you can break the ends off. There about 25mm wide so can take a bit off abuse without breaking. The sealant can grab the blade your cutting dry. Be careful not to scrape at the black areas around the inside of the glass. Rich.2211
I paid £120 cash from a local, and well trusted, glass specialist. That was for all the glass out (windscreen, r/quarters and tailgate) and refitting using the old seals (which were fine). He also said he wouldn't take responsibility if they broke, but I risked it and they were fine.
Kaan W
Ok so Autoglass was suppose to turn up to remove my windows today, I had a phone call this morning to tell me they accidentally booked in a technician than a window installer and that I would now have to wait until Friday to get this done! With no work starting on the car at the paint garage until the glass is removed has delayed the whole thing and taken up time for other jobs which they wernt too happy about. I asked for them to cancel and refund my money which will take 5-10 working days!!! Have been rrecommended another company which are booked to do it tomorrow, as a result its only gunno cost £210 instead. I would have expected more from a big company like Autoglass

Guest Budz86
Sounds like a much better price - a local firm quoted me £200 a couple of years back for all the glass out and back in
