Tom
any ideas what this noise is from the rear of van? If I hold the throttle at a certain position I can keep the noise going, it goes when I come off the throttle or when accelerating, surely can't be a recirc valve? I had an advisory on my mot but i'm curious to see what's suggested first http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxLRj19hAg8&list=UU7v6af-OfZgWDy7K5ozPFwg

Tom
What van is it ? Is it same hot or cold peugeot partner 2.0hdi, yeah, same hot/cold, probably been like this since i've owned it tbh, i've done 50k in it. I had an advisory that one of the wheel bearings was a little rough, and other people that have driven the van over the past 2-3 years have said my bearing is noisey, but I could never hear anything, I had assumed the sound in the video actually was a recirc valve as its always on part open throttle and if I hold it there, I could go 40mph in third, part throttle then change gear and it'll be gone, but as the sound is at the rear of the van it doesn't make sense for it to be that. I then I thought "ah" maybe this sound was the bearing, but I believe that would be a deeper sound and most likely continous. Also it doesn't matter what gear, but certain revs in each gear and again part to near full throttle Edited December 17, 2013 by Tom (see edit history)
Benjy
Wheel bearings hum. Then they howl. That sounds like a turbo. Which being on an HDI, wouldn't suprise me in the slightest.
Tom
Wheel bearings hum. Then they howl. That sounds like a turbo. Which being on an HDI, wouldn't suprise me in the slightest. Would I not be able to hear it from the engine bay too if it was the turbo? and the sound being all throughout the rev range and at full boost? Would make sense though, with the sound travelling down the exhaust I'm guessing?, The turbo would have done well at 105k, guessing this would mean it's on its way out? and if that is the case, how long do I leave it? Don't really want to spend over 1k on it to find out it wasnt the turbo:D It hasn't lost any performance from what I can tell, it's had oil changes every 5k Edited December 17, 2013 by Tom (see edit history)
Benjy
Pop the intake pipe off the turbo and check the turbo for play.

Tom
Sorted, turbo was all good and it turned out to be the the egr valve, blanked it off today and the noise has gone
