marc_p
Hi guys, This is a question to hopefully a few of you who have had both of the above set ups, I'm running a BW S366 on a Whifbitz twin wastegate mani, when I bought the kit, I specced it as a screamer pipe set up, however, before it goes for mapping, I am having some fabrication work done on a couple of things and I am considering having the screamer pipes plumbed into the downpipe. The reason for the second thoughts is due to the fact that I wouldn't want them out the bonnet or the wing and with them exiting underneath, I can't help but think that there will be excessive amounts of heat/fire blasting the underneath of the car. I also feel that when they open, the noise might be a bit............excessive shall we say So anyone who has any views on my current debacle would be much appreciated to pipe up. Cheers Marc
Gaz6002
I hated the screamer pipe. Once mine was plumbed back into the exhaust it completely changed the character of the car, and it definitely felt far more refined. For a car like the Supra that's a good thing IMO - it's a quality product and venting your wastegate to atmosphere isn't.
Guigsy
I don't mind mine. But when it goes to be readied for dragonball I'm going to discuss having it plumbed in as I'd like to drive the car more and I think this will make it a more comfortable drive
j_jza80
I'd either go permanent recirc or get a diverted valve fitted. An fully open screamer would become a PITA.
marc_p
Sounds like getting them plumbed in is the best course of action. Is this going to cause any issues with exhaust restrictiveness(it's a straight through system, 3.5", no silencers)?

Shouldn't do, but it's best practice to plumb it in at as shallow an angle as possible to help streamline the gas flow.

This, and a few people receommended to me to have a flex section inbetween the wastegate and downpipe
little num
also noise is a big factor for tracksdays sp if you ever wanted to have a play at one you will most defiantly fail the noise limit. I have mine plumed in and it just sounded so much nicer, it sounded like a blowing exhaust before.
Rich.2211
I have mine plumed in and it just sounded so much nicer, it sounded like a blowing exhaust before. Mine sounded like that but turned out the valve in the wastegate wasn't seating correctly, hence leaking exhaust gases through the screamer pipe even at idle and sounding like a tractor. berg
I might have this done on mine when i get the new turbosmart wastegate Be nice to actually hear the turbo make a noise as all i hear is RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Luxluc
I have a screamer pipe .. and the sound is very loud under full boost. As James said : it's a problem for trackdays. P.S. I burnt the wooden plates on the ramp on the hub dyno at Silverstone ... Dan needed to bring the hose to put water on the wood :d
add heywood
I loved the screamer on mine, in a tunnel it was ace lol...
Chris Bailey
I love a screamer pipe, What's the point in having a highly modified supra and not show it off!
Pulley
For general track usability and to stop my ears bleeding on fast road trips I went for the plumbed in option Although I strongly advise a flexi, if its not possible to put a flexi between the wg and downpipe, then have one inthe downpipe or just soon after With a nice shallow angle join and decent flow exhaust there's no problems with restriction
marc_p
Thanks for all the replies guy's, think I'm going to grab a flexi and get it plumbed back in. I love a screamer pipe, What's the point in having a highly modified supra and not show it off! I have 2 wastegates, it's just going to be too damn loud with screamers, besides, it means more fire out the exhaust

TBDevelopments
depending on your exhaust system the screamer pipe will actually create more power and torque opposed to re-routed... saying that i'm building mine as re-route as i had mr2's with screamer and it does get a bit much. But saying that you only ever hear it on full chat anyway and most of our cars aren't the most refined or quiet when this happens regardless. Gaz6002
depending on your exhaust system the screamer pipe will actually create more power and torque opposed to re-routed... Why do you say that?
TBDevelopments
just from experience with other cars. But there is a huge amount of gas volume goes through the wastegate, So venting it out and away from the exhaust means its not adding and contributing to the exhaust flow from the engine. Gains of the same example can be seeing when you have people vent there exhaust mid pipe with one of those exhaust butterflys i saw a supra trader selling stateside. The gains come from a less restrictive exhaust system. Where as its similar to screamer pipe your removing a %age of the gas thus making the exhaust system you have more efficient. I'm not talking day and night here but i see differences on a 2ltr 4 cylinder engine at 400bhp + Tim
Nic
I would recirculate the wastegate if I was doing it again, the screamer pipe on the HK streets wasn't exactly stealthy! If you're not sure you could make a removable recirculating pipe so you could block it off and fit a screamer pipe, or as suggested earlier fit a bypass valve so you can open and close it from within the car. Chris Wilson
also noise is a big factor for tracksdays sp if you ever wanted to have a play at one you will most defiantly fail the noise limit. I have mine plumed in and it just sounded so much nicer, it sounded like a blowing exhaust before. With a 3.5 inch exhaust with no silencers, whatever he does with the wastegate outlet(s) he won't be doing any track days, and may well be ripping the lot off if the more rigorous police noise enforcement comes to his area, or wherever he travels. Personally I think noisy exhausts and screamer pipes just, err "scream" point your radar this way, or come and bag me....
